[37734] This person is from an unverified file in Ancestry.com in 2014 which states he was a postman and enlisted in the 43rd Foot of Monmouthsire Light Infantry and was active in twelve battles in the Peninsular War against Napoleonic armies, for which he was one of only fire Peninsular veterans to be awarded the medal with 12 bars. The file states Philipp is son of James Craig and Martha Hancock. Ancestry.com offers: "Craig Name Meaning - Scottish: topographic name for someone who lived near a steep or precipitous rock, from Gaelic creag, a word that has been borrowed in Middle English as crag(g)."
