[51367] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 1 June 1915": "Birch Harbor - Avery 'Pop'/'Gramp' Vance Chipman left this Earth on May 29, 2015, to meet his Lord and reunite with his beloved wife Estelle Church Chipman. He was born Aug. 2, 1921, in Milbridge, the son of Edgar and Ella (Wilson) Chipman. He moved to Bunker Harbor in 1940, having to quit high school and work to help care for his family. He married the love of his life on Nov. 16, 1942, and they were married 71 years at her passing. Nov. 17, 1942 - the day after their marriage - Avery received a letter from Uncle Sam. He was drafted into the U.S. Army as an infantryman in company G of the 397th infantry regiment of the 100th Division. He was sworn in on Nov. 26 in Bangor and went to South Carolina for training on Dec. 11. Avery was away from home serving in the Army for a total of three years, one month, and two days. As a WWII veteran, he had great love for his country and took pride in flying the flag. Upon his return home in December 1945, Avery joined his wife and young son at his in-laws, and went fishing with his father-in-law. A piece of land was soon given to them, where Avery cleared a plot and framed up a house with the help of two older carpenters. Avery finished the house himself, so it was complete enough to move in Sept. 9, 1947. Together, they raised four children there. Avery continued to lobster fish, went Seining, worked on the Dow Air Force Base in Bangor and became a gate guard at the Navy base on Schoodic Point in 1963. There, he became supervisor and worked until 1981. He returned to lobster fishing, retiring in 1986. In their later years, Avery and Estelle enjoyed playing cards, attending public suppers, and traveling around the U.S. and Canada. They were dedicated members of Birch Harbor Baptist Church, and cherished time at home with family and friends. He is survived by brothers, George and wife, Rebecca, Herbert and Albert and wife, Betty; sister-in-law, Alice, and special sister-in-law Annabelle, all of Bunkers Harbor; two sons, James, and Merton and wife, Peggy; two daughters, Jean and husband, Richard Bridges, and Susan Scott, all of Birch Harbor; grandchildren, Timothy and wife, Marwa, Tammy and husband, Lance, John and friend Michelle, Lisa and friend Arthur, Stephen and wife, Tracy, Joshua and wife, Megan, Crystal, Avery and wife, Stacey; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Jacob, Jessica, Joshua, Dakota, Mckenzie, Shelby, Serena, Brady, Jordyn, Blake, Grafton, Jedd, and Landan; great-great-grandson, Gabrial; step-grandchildren, Courtney and wife Melissa, Jasmine and husband, Joe, Cindy Tracy, JR, Tammy, Michael, and Bobby; step-great grandchildren, Alan, Gerald, Kaitlyn, Brooklyn, Holly, Dunovan, Xavier, and Alexia; cousins, Martha and husband James, Ronald and wife Lori; four wonderful ladies who were like daughters, LaNeta, Cindy, Nancy, and Tammy Croyt; special people, Allison, deceased, Ron and wife Nancy, deceased, Jillaine, Cheryl, Craig, Joyce, Larry and wife, Phyllis, dear wife Florence Dinsmore, Maxine, Michelle, Bill, Nicole, Elijah, Benjamin, and Elizabeth. Avery was predeceased by his wife, Estelle; parents, Edgar and Ella; stepmother, Minnie; brothers, Roger, Leamon, Vint, and Maynard; sister, Mildred; sisters-in-law, Doris and Kay, and grandson, Michael."
[36681] This person is from the unverified Leslie Hall's tree in Ancestry.com in 2014. "Pottsville Republican [Pottsville, Pennsylvania], 19 Feb 1904," p. 1: "Mrs. Sarah Schwalm, wife of Wm. Schwalm. a well-to-do farmer of Valley View, died on Wednesday, aged 68 years and two days. Mrs. Schwalm's maiden name was Deibert, one of the Orwigsburg family of that name. There survive the husband and three sons, A. A. Schwalm, Justice of the Peace, at Hegins; Joseph, merchant, at Pinegrove and Jackson, who has charge of the homestead farm. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon with interment at Artz cemetery, Sacramemto. Wm. Schwalm, husband of the deceased, is confined to his bed with illness."
