[57819] Eugene's obituary: "Stonington - Eugene H. Eaton passed away peacefully October 17, 2024 at his home in Stonington. Born August 14, 1941, in Little Deer Isle Maine, he was the son of Marjorie (Hardy) Joyce and Earl Eaton. Gene attended S.M.V.T.I of South Portland, where he studied automotive technology. After graduating in 1961, he worked on an 82 foot yacht, the 'Topsal,' as an engineer. Gene returned home a few years later to help run Shepards Garage in Stonington. When Shepards relocated to Rockland, Gene purchased the garage. Genes Sales & Service sold Evinrude outboards, Homelite chainsaws, Polaris snowmobiles, as well as new and used cars and trucks. Gene was also a distributor of Suburban Propane (now Gross Gas). Several years later, a construction company was purchased from George Fifield, and Gene Eaton Construction was created, a business he would run until his passing. Gene enjoyed many things outside of work, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, being on the water. As an avid sports fan he followed the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics. His love was following his children and grandchildrens sports careers, and he would travel far and wide to watch and critique his kids. As a member of the Masons, he received a 50-year pin award recognition and was also a member of state championship Demolay basketball teams. Gene served his community as well, as a Selectman of the town of Stonington and as a member of the Island school board that built the new elementary school. For many years Gene and his wife of 61 years, Linda, wintered in West Palm Beach, Florida, where they would enjoy the company of friends and family who may be in the area. Gene is survived by his wife Linda (Shepard) Eaton and their three children Dean Eaton and his wife Daphne of Stonington, Barbara (Eaton) Violette and her husband Robert of Orland, and Darren Eaton and his wife Rhonda of Stonington. He was blessed with six grandchildren Shane, Audra, Spencer, Tyler, Alec and Allyson, and two great-grandchildren Zaylee and Tatum and their families. Gene is also survived by his siblings, Norma Morey and Sandra Seile and their spouses. Gene was predeceased by his parents, siblings Pearl Eaton, Bernadette Brady, step-brother Vaughn Joyce and a special granddaughter."

[24869] NOTE: Roger is duplicated in my database as Roger Le Strange (d. 1311)! - the confusion in this ancestry invited further research. "Massachusetts and Maine Families, Volume I, Beaumont, of Wednesbury," on the Web at genealogy.com, p.155: "Roger Lestrange, 4th Lord Strange of Knockin, 2nd son of John, was born in 1301 and succeeded his brother John, 3rd Lord, in 1323. In 1335 he was heir of his uncle, Edle Lestrange. In 1337 he was at war in France. He died in 1349. His first wife, Maud, died before March 25, 1344, when he married, secondly, Joan, daughter of Oliver, Lord Ingham." Joan and Oliver, Lord Ingham, had a daughter, Ela, who m. Sir Miles Stapleton, K.G., and had Sir Brian Stapleton who m. Cecilia, daughter of William, Lord Bardof - they were parents of Miles Stapleton, q.v. - see "Baronia Angelica Concentrata," T. C. [1698] Charles I, "king of Naples and Sicily and count of Anjou, was the seventh child of Louis VIII of France and Blanche of Castile. ...one of the most powerful sovereigns of Europe... An extremely able soldier and a skillful statesman, his inordinate ambition and his cruelty created enemies on all sides, and led to the collapse of the edifice of dominion which he had raised." - Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1959 Ed., 5:277 (cf.16:81). He built the "New Castle" in Naples. See http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SICILY.htm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_I_of_Naples.
