She attended Vassar and Flora Stone Mather Colleges. After her schooling she lived for some years in Boston, where she did volunteer social work. Of colonial ancestry, Miss Gehring was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a student of genealogies and was interested in work of the Cleveland Museum of Art and of musical groups here.
