By his first marriage, to Jane Zartman, he had four children: Henry; Margaret, Mrs. Peter Boughner; Mary, Mrs. Samuel Campbell; and Elizabeth, wife of Simeon Campbell (brother of Samuel). His second wife, Rachel (Sober), who died March 6, 1877, aged seventy-seven years, four months, was the mother of the following children: Jane, born in 1836, who married Henry K. Price, and died in 1874; Savilla, who married Harvey Fisher; Louisa, who married John K. Erdman; and Rebecca, who married David P. Martz. All these four daughters are buried at the Oak Grove church in Ralpho township. ..."
[55120] Caroline is daughter of William Saylor (1818-1891) & Elizabeth Kochenderfer (1823-1903). "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania]," 13 November 1913, p. 13: "Mrs. Caroline Jane Harter, beloved wife of Mr. George W. Harter, died at her home on West McClure street, this place, Monday evening, at 8.35 o'clock from an attack of neuralgia of the heart. She had not been well for several years, suffering at intervals from heart trouble, but her last illness was of only two days' duration. She was as well as usual on Saturday and called on a neighbor Saturday evening. She was aged 74 years, 6 months and 10 days. Mrs. Harter was a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Kochenderfer) Saylor and was born in Sandy Hill district, April 20, 1855. She and Mr. Harter were married in 1871. Their surviving children are: Willis Harter, Youngstown, Ohio; Mrs. Annie Carl, Lemoyne; Cyrus Harter, of Bloomfield; Howard Harter, Canonsburg, Pa.; Harry Harter, Lemoyne, and Lula (Mrs. James Hoffman), Shermansdale. One sister, Mrs. Benjamin Wolfe, of Sandy Hill, is also living. Mrs. Harter was a member of the Elliottsburg Lutheran Church and was a good woman, a most kind and devoted wife and mother. Her greatest pleasure was in doing something for her husband and children, and they are greatly distressed over her death, especially her husband who keenly feels the loss of his life partner the good, true woman, who shared all his joys and sorrows. To him and the children is extended the sincere sympathy of all. Funeral services will be held at the house on Friday morning at 10.30 o'clock and burial will be in Bloomfield cemetery."

Malcolm Called By Death - Passed away at Her Home in Deford - Had Remarkable Experience in the Forest Fires of 188I in Kingston Township. Died at her home in Deford on Tuesday, Jan. 24, Mrs. C. J. Malcolm, following an illness which was not considered serious until a week before her demise. Jane Westbrook was born in Scotland, Ontario, July 16, 1948. Here she resided until her marriage on Oct. 9, 1869, to C. J. Malcolm Three years after their marriage they moved to Lapeer couny, Michigan, and later to Lapeer city where Mr. Malcolm taught school for a number of years. In 1880 they moved to Kingston township, Tuscola county, and there endured the hardships of the early settlers. In 1881 the forest fires consumed all their personal property and the family--the parents and three children--escaped death by staying in a well for over ten hours. Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm resided on their farm until two years ago when they moved to Deford. Mrs. Malcolm was a home-lover and Bible student. At the age of 15 years she was converted and united with the Congregational church at Scotland. Later she and all the other members of the family became members of the M. E. church at Deford. The funeral service was held at the Deford church Thursday afternoon, Rev. A. Beedon officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the Novesta cemetery. Besides the husband, deceased is survived by four children, Mrs. Fred Lester, Mrs. Samuel Sherk, Howard Malcolm and Mrs. Chas. Schmuhl, all of whom reside in or near Deford, and a niece, Mrs. Joseph Moore, of Leamington, Ont."
