[3619] Pedro "had a very marked and curious personal character...was a crusader, and took a distinguished part in the victory over the Almohades...in 1212...in 1213 he fought against Simon de Montfort's crusaders, moved not by sympathy with the Albigenses, but by hostility to the conquering intervention of the north under the pretence of religious zeal. A favourer of the troubadors, he combined great personal valour with the most lax morality."{-Encycl.Brit.,`56,17:639} He reigned 1196-1213. http://www.stirnet.com/HTML/genie/continent/aa/aragon1.htm identifies him as son of Sancha of Castile, second wife of Alfonso II, King of Aragon, and gives his descendants. [4084] Hermenegild, son of a Visigothic king, was raised an Arian at the court of Seville. He became a "Catholic" upon marrying the daughter of Sigebert of Austrasia, causing his father to disinherited him - resulting in Hermenegild taking arms to regain his inheritance. Defeated and captured, he refused to give up his faith and was put to death, probably at the instigation of his step-mother. His feast day, April 13, is only observed locally.
