[6983] Bartholomew, of Baldesmere and Chelham Castle, Kent, was Lord Baldesmere, Governor of Skipton Castle, Steward of the King's Household. He was hanged. Blanche at http://www.digiserve.com/peter/family/badlsem.htm offers: "He once refused the Queen refuge in the Castle and later led an insurrection against the King into Canterbury, was finally captured and hung, drawn & quartered, and had his head impaled on the then Burgate Wall. ...From the Complete Peerage, and I quote - "Bartholomew of Badlesmere, of Badlesmere and Chilham Castle, Kent s. and h. of Guncelin or Gunselm B. of Badlesmere afsd., Justice of Chester, by Joan, da. of Ralph Fitz Bernard, of Kingsdown, Kent (aunt and in her issue, h. to Thomas (Lord) Fitz Bernard, attended the war in Gascony (1294) 22 Edw I; suc. his father in 1301, being then aged 26; was in the Scottish wars 1303 and 1304; Governor of Bristol Castle 1307; had a grant of the Castle and Manor of Chilham, Kent 1309; and from 26 Oct 1309, 3 Edw. II to 15 May 1321 was sum. to Parl. by writs directed to Bartholmew de Badlesmere, whereby he may be held to have become Lord Badlesmere. He obtained a grant of the Castle of Leeds in Kent, and in 1314-15 was made Governor of Skipton Castle, and of all the castles in Yorkshire and Westmorland, whereof Robert de Clifford had d. seized. He was also Steward of the King's Household. Notwithstanding the many favours he had received, he joined the Earl of Lancaster in his rebellion, and was defeated with him at Boroughbridge, 16 Mar.1322, captured at Stow Park, attainted, and hung as a traitor at Canterbury, 14 Apr.1322. He is described in the contemporary Boroughbridge Roll as a Banneret. He m. before 30 June 1308, Margaret, widow of Gilbert de Unfreville, who d. before 23 May 1303, aunt and coheir of Thomas de CLARE, Steward of the Forest of Essex, dau of Thomas de Clare...."

The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names 'Guilelmum et Raymundum' as the two sons of 'GuilelmiTolose comitis' & his wife 'Alymodis multinuba'. 'WilelmoRaimundoUgoni' are named as sons of 'Pontio' in the charter of 'Vilelmo comite Tolosano' dated 9 Jun 1063. He succeeded his father in 1060 as Guillaume IV Comte de Toulouse. On the death of his cousin Berthe Ctss de Rouergue in [1063/64], the counties of Narbonne, Agde, Béziers, Uzès and Rouergue reverted to Toulouse. 'Guillelmus Tolosaniensiumcomes et dux' names 'proavomeo Pontio Aquitanorum duce' in a charter dated 1080. - m firstly (before 1067) Mathilde, daughter of ---. The primary source which confirms her marriage has not yet been identified. - m secondly (before 1080) Emma de Mortain, daughter of Robert Comte de Mortain & his first wife Mathilde de Montgomery. Robert of Torigny names 'unum filium Guillermum et tres filias' as the children of 'Robertus comes Moritonii uterinus frater Willermi regis', specifying that one unnamed daughter (mentioned third) married 'comes Tolosanus frater Raimundi comitis Sancti Ægidii'. The primary source which confirms her name has not yet been identified."
