[9892] AKA Heinrich, Henry m. (1) Mary Steese (dau. of Jacob Steese of Penn Twp., Snyder Co., PA) and (2) Margaret Harper (dau. of the Hon. Adam Harper of Penn's Valley, once an associate judge of Centre Co., PA). Henry had four children by Mary and seven by Margaret. He was a Colonel during the War for Independence. A pioneer settler, he moved about 1793 to Brush Valley, Centre Co., PA. In 2004 http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chrystiem/meyerbook.html offers: "Henry Meyer was a large man, weighing over 200 pounds and being over 6 feet tall and of symmetrical built. He possessed great muscular strenght and activity and was proficient in all the athletic accomplishments of his day. Although being of a reserved and non-aggressive disposition, he was... nevertheless a principle in many a fierce encounter in his younger days; but it is to be hoped only in self-defence or in behalf of his friends of whom there were a legion." - this web site offers further description of Henry's life. Also see "Genealogy of the Meyer Family," Henry Meyer (Cleveland, Ohio: Lauer & Mattill, 1890), pp. 61-82.

[14467] "The Boston Globe [Boston, Massachusetts], 3 September 1892," p. 8: "Holbrook, Mass., Sept. 3. Mr. Lemuel S. Whitcomb, of the firm of Whitcomb & Paine, a prominent shoe manufacturer of this town, died at 2.40 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after a short illness. Deceased was bom in Holbrook (then East Randolph) in 1826. He entered the public schools and finished about the time he was 18 years of age. He then joined his father, with whom he continued for about six months. At the age of 19 he entered into the shoe manufacturing business with his brother-in-law, Mr. White, and continued under the firm name of White & Whitcomb for a number of years. Finally the firm dissolved, and about 1865 Mr. Whitcomb formed a partnership with Mr. Charles H. Paine, under the firm name of Whitcomb & Paine, in which he continued up to the time of his death. Mr. Whitcomb was one of the most prominent men in the town of Holbrook. The funeral will take place on Sunday, at 3 p m., when the remains will be interred in the Union cemetery."
