Following the death of Raymond of Burgundy, her husband, she ruled the medieval Spanish kingdom of Castile until 1125. Her prior marriage to Alfonso I, King of Aragon (reigned 1109-26) was annulled. Her sister Theresa married her husband's cousin, Count Henry of Chalon, and they were given the area south of Mino as a hereditary county of Portugal; their son Alfonso Enriques was King of Portugal, 1112-85. See Leo van de Pas' web site, http://www.genealogics.org.
http://www.guide2womenleaders.com/womeninpower/Womeninpower1100.htm offers: "In 1107 she reigned over her Dowry Galicia and Zamora after the death of her first husband Count Raimond de Bourgogne. The following year she inherited the throne from her father Alfonso VI Fernandez of Castile and Leon (1040-1109). Her second marriage in the year 1109 to Alfonso I Perez de Aragon (d. 1134) ended in divorce in 1114. Her reign was disturbed by strife among the powerful nobles and especially by constant warfare with her husband, who had seized her lands. She never remarried, though she took several lovers. Another thorn in her side was her half-sister, Tarasa of Portugal and her husband, Enrique, who allied with her estranged husband, then betrayed him when a better offer came from Urraca's court. After her brother-in-law's death in 1112, her sister still contested ownership of lands. With the aid of her son, Alfonso Raimúndez, Urraca was able to win back much of her domain and ruled successfully until her death. According to the Chronicon Compostellanum, she died in childbirth in 1126. The father was her lover, Count Pedro González of Lara. She was succeeded by her legitimate son, Alfonso VII Raymundez of Castile and Leon "Imperator totus Hispaniae" (d. 1157)."

[7751] "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, PA], 23 SAugust 1899," p. 3: "Blain, Pa., August 21. When Rev. Mr. Strock announced that on Wednesday evening, August 16, the merry wedding bells would ring, inviting all the people to witness the ceremony of marriage in his church, our staid, conservative community was surprised, to put it mildly. Never within the memory of tne oldest inhabitant has there been a church wedding in Blain. Every man, heretofore, has been willing to woo and wed his spouse by the fireside and in the parlor. Many, therefore, have been greatly interested in the two young persons wbo have been bold enougn to take tne initiative, and the general invitation extended to the people was accepted with eagerness. The prospective young bride and groom found themselves the recipients of a great deal of attention during the last few weeks. Indeed so prominent has been the event that whoever hereafter shall essay to write the history of Blain must make prominent mention of this our first church wedding. The young people who have thus been the cynosure of all eyes are Mr. Austin Roy Kern, of Dawson, Pa., and Miss Sarah Florence Rickard, of Blain, Pa. The wedding was solemnized in the Reformed church in the presence of a large concourse of people, before whom sat those relatives and friends whose cards entitled them to seats of honor. This church is one of the four which makes Blain so justly celebrated for her splendid houses of worship, and when decorated with beautiful banks and vases of golden-rod and ferns, it was a poem in itself a veritable work of art. Certainly it furnished a most suitable place tor the gladsome and impressive ceremony of marriage. At precisely 8 p. m. the main doors ot the church swung open and the sweet strains of Mendelssohn's wedding march, rendered by Miss Maud Smith, indicated the arrival of the wedding party. Down one aisle of the church moved the main division of the wedding procession in the following order : Messrs. Samuel K. Rickard aud Nevin Gutsliall, of Blain, Pa., as ushers ; Miss Anna Mae Baer, of Loysville, Pa., and Miss Lulu M. Albright, of llarrisburg, Pa., as bridesmaids; Miss Mary Hollingcr, of Lancaster, Pa., as maid of honor. Following these persons came Mr. James C. Rickard bearing on his arm his daughter, Miss Sarah F. Rickard. Down the other aisle came Mr. Chas. E. Sheaffer, of McVeytown, Pa., and Mr. Milton S. Kistler, of JNew York City, as ushers. After them followed the groom and his brother, Mr. Fred A. Kern, as best man. The two divisions came together near the altar and formed round it in a graceful manner, the contracting parties with the father of the bride and the best man in the centre. As faint, melodious strains of music were waftcd to the altar, Rev. T. C. Strock united the happy couple in the bonds of matrimony, using the ring ceremony of the Reformed church, which is so richly expressive and so beautiful. The bride was neatly attired in a gown of white India silk, richly trimmed with silk lace and satin ribbons. The bridal veil of tulle was suspended in graceful folds and was bunched over with lilies of the valley. In her hand she carried a splendid bouquet of white roses. The maid of honor, Miss Mary Hollinger, also wore white silk and carried a bouquet of white roses. The two bridesmaids wore organdie, each carrying elaborate bouquels of pink roses. The gentlemen all wore the conventional black. After leaving the church, the bridal party and invited guests wended their way to the beautiful home of the bride's parents. Here the best wishes and congratulations of their friends were showered on the bride and groom in the heartiest manner. A sumptuous wedding supper was served, after which everybody contributed from the richest treasures of his personality to the happiness of the occasion. The bride is the beautiful and winsome daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James 0. Rickard, of this place. She is a charming young lady and has many friends here and elsewhere, who wish her well. The groom, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Kern, has been very successfully conducting a mercantile business for sometime past at Dawson, Pa. He will engage in a similar business at Myersdale, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Kern will be at home to their friends in Myersdale, Pa., after September 1. The bride was the recipient of many really handsome and useful presents. A list of the invited guests is appended: Rev. T. C. Strock and wife, S. P. Kern, wife and family, Mrs. Daniel Sheaffer, Mrs. Robert Campbell and nephew, Wm. Sheaffer aud wife, Joseph Wilt and wife, Blain, Pa. ; Horace Lightner, wife and son, Quarryville, Pa.; B. F. Rickard, wife and family, Lewistown, Pa.; T. J. Shope and wife, Alinda; William Weibley and wife, Alinda; Jacob Richard, Loysville; Mrs. B. F. Kell and daughter, Loysville; Lenus Ellerman and wife, Alinda; Samuel Shull and wife, Saville; William Woods and wife, Blain; S. L.
