daughter of William Moore and Dorothy Dixon. This realtionship is so stated in a book titled
Genealogy of New Hampshire and Maine. Additionally, this marriage was recorded in New England
marriages before 1700. Often the surname of "Wellcome" was spelled several ways.
Additionally, independent genealogy books, one written by George Burbank and Oliver Willcomb,
support this relationship with William Moore and Dorothy Dixon."

Col. in the Canada expedition, on June 5, 1690; he was commander of a whale-bone fleet. John inherited the northeasterly portion of land & dwelling house from his father. John & Mary are buried in the New England corner of Unitarian Meeting House in Barnstable, Mass. On 16 Feb 1674 when John was 22, he married Mary Otis, daughter of John Otis & Mary Jacob, in Barnstable, Mass. Born on 14 Mar 1654 in Hingham, Mass., Mary died in Barnstable. on 1 Apr 1733; she was 79, buried at the Unitarion Meeting House, Barnstable. Mary's will was probated 20 Apr 1733."

John was married and two children were born. Then his wife died. Those children remained in Vermont where their descendants could still be. In 1804, these three brothers came to Norfolk Co., Ontario. John Smith married again to Mary Wilson and Jacob, Jane, Katie, John, Margaret, Mary Ann, James and William were born to this union. Our Jacob is the third of the three who came from England via Vermont. Jacob and Katie settled in Townsend Twp., Norfolk Co.
