Maurer, died at her home at Hepler, Schuylkill county, Saturday afternoon, following an illness of four days. Asthma was the cause of death. She was aged 77 years, 8 months and 21 days. Surviving beside her husband are four sons: Donald, of Cressona: Charles, of Hepler; Edgar, of Schuylkill Haven; and Raymond, of Pontiac, Mich. She is also survived by a brother, Emanuel Erdman, of Bloomsburg; and a step-brother, Edgar Rumberger, of Rough and Ready. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 o'clock from the home and later at the Lutheran and Reformed church, Rough and Ready. Rev. Fetterolf will officiate and burial will be made in Rough and Ready."

Born in Lykens Township on June 4, 1870, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hepler. His wife, the late Katie Kimmel, died in 1917. He was a member of the Valley View Fire Co., the Gun Club of Valley View and was a social member of the American Legion, Valley View. He was a member of the United Brethren Church, of Valley View. Surviving are one son and five daughters: Mrs. Anna Harner, Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Hattie Harner, Spring Glen; Mrs. Arthur Neye, Mrs. Jennie Hepler, Valley View; Mrs. Albert Bassler, York; John, Valley View. A son, George, died in 1944. Also surviving are 27 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Annie Weiss, Reading; two half sisters, Mrs. Grant Henry Stutzman, Sinking Springs."

A Veteran of World War I, he had served in the Army. He was a Charter Member and Deacon of the Seventh Street Baptist Church here and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He had been a plumbing contractor here until retiring in 1965. Survivors include his wife - Jewel; one son, Curtis Jones of Ballinger; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Drake of Wickett,TX; Mrs. Johnnie Ruth Gallagher of Eastland and Mrs. Edna Mae Hunter of Needles, CA; one brother, Melvin Jones of Fort Worth; six sisters, Mrs. Nora Brown of Cisco and Mrs. Ozzie Ellisor, Mrs. Anne Belle Woodard, Mrs Cassie Pursley, Mrs, Minnie Hitt and Mrs. Zora Sheppard, all of Abilene; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren."

He made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem in the 9th year of the reign of Henry IV and returned. His younger brother, William Stradling, had Gwenlian Stradling, mistress of Sir Anthony Woodville, Lord Scales, Earl Rivers, d. 1483 - Anthony and Gwenlian had Margaret Woodville who m. Sir Robert Poyntz, Knight, d. 1520.
