[2595] John Jacob moved to Little Germany Valley in Perry Co., PA on 100 acres 28 April 1788 and sold this farm in April, 1790 to Abraham Kistler, Sr. (of Kistler Valley, Lynn Twp., Berks Co.). He and Magdalena had eight children. For an extended article on this family, see "Briner Family History" by Forrest D. Myers and Jerry A. Clouse (Harrisburg, PA: 1984), Appendix E. Also see Jerry A. Clouse's "The German Element in Perry County" in "The Perry Review, Vol. 30 - 2009" (Newport, PA: The Perry Historians) which mentions many Briners and related families and their culture. His grave marker inscription: "J. Jacob Briner, Died Aug. 4. 1842 Aged 74 yrs. 8 mos. & 23 days." His will seems to indicate he was b. 11 Nov 1767.

Isolde was heiress of the Manors of Eastington, Gloucestershire, and Thornbury, Herefordshire. She is apparently NOT the daughter of Margaret de Fienes - see "Ancestral Roots..." (1992), 207-31. Hereford (who was living and m. to her in 1286/7), da. of Sir Edmund DE MORTIMER, 1st LORD MORTIMER,(e) of Wigmore, co. Hereford, by (----). She brought him the manors of Eastington, co. Gloucester, and of Thornbury, co. Hereford. Note e: Her father, Edmund de Mortimer of Wigmore, by charter, undated, gave to her and Walter de Balun, her husband, the manor of Arley, co. The mother of Isolt must be an earlier wife of Edmund Mortimer than Margaret de Fiennes, since Isolt married Hugh, Lord Audley circa 1288 and Margaret married Edmund in 1285 (see post, vol. ix, p. 283, note (m)). [Ex inform. Lindsay L. Brook.] Unfortunately the reference apparently given as the authority for Isolt's parentage (Addit. MS. 5485, f. 160), is incorrect, so it is not possible to check whether it provides explicit evidence that Isolt was Edmund's daughter. Douglas Richardson, in January 2002, commented on the statement above that Isolt brought Eastington in Gloucestershire and Thornbury in Herefordshire to the Audleys. Concerning Thornbury, this seems to be an error, as the Audleys held Thornbury in Gloucestershire, whereas the Mortimers held Thornbury in Herefordshire. The account does not specify in what fashion Isolt brought Eastington, but it had previously been held by the Baluns, so she brought it as dower from her first marriage, not as a marriage-portion from her own family."

[41242] The unverified Sargeant Famly Tree in Ancestry.com in 2016 offers: "When John Curtis Smathers was born on January 4, 1828, in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, his father, Christian, was 33 and his mother, Susannah, was 30. He married Anna Jones on January 31, 1850, in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. They had 10 children in 19 years. He died on August 25, 1895, in Ringgold, Pennsylvania, at the age of 67."
