Llewellyn I, Ap Iorworth: he descends from the ancient Princes of North Wales (earliest known ancestor is Llewellyn, Prince of N. Wales, d. 994) and from Aelfgar (Edgar), Earl of Mercia who was banished in 1058 (d. 1059), and his wife Alfigifu (their dau. Editha m. Griffith I, Llewellyn's son & heir). He recovered his paternal lands in 1194 and in 1201 was the greatest prince in Wales; in 1215 he took Shrewsbury; his rights were secured by special clauses in the Magna Charta. In 1239 he retired to a Cistercian monastery. Ernst-Friedrich Kraentzler, "The Ancestory of Richard Plantagenet and Cecily de Neville..." (Salt Lake City: Accelerated Indexing Systems, 1978), p. 25, gives Llewellyn's birth year as about 1164. He is known as "The Great". In 1603 he was appointed Sheriff of Shropshire. ...He died in 1608." This contradicts the purported marriage shown here. For this line also see "The Kenison Story," Mabel Azeltine Rapp, and http://www.freewebs.com/powys/pl_tree/ps01/ps01_302.htm. http://gaskellfamily.com/rogerkynaston1433.ht offers: " Roger was Constable of Denbigh Castle in 1454 and supported the Yorkists during the Wars of the Roses, particularly distinguishing himself during the battle of Bloreheath on 23rd September 1459 when 'He vanquished and slew the Lord James Audley (descendant of the Touchet family) and took his arms, Ermine, a chevron gules, ever since borne quarterly by the Kynastons of Hordley'. For a detailed description of the battle and Roger’s role in it see Attachment Roger was actually summoned to the presence of the new King, Edward IV, some 18 months after his accession in 1461, and knighted and presented with the arms and certain land of Lord Audley. A month later, he fought against the King’s forces at Ludford near Ludlow and was eventually attainted for high treason. However, the penalty of attainder was not inflicted for he and many others received the royal pardon in 1467 on payment of a fine. He founded the line of Kynaston of Hordley. . . Roger was appointed for life as Escheator and Sheriff of Merioneth, was Constable of Harlech and was Sheriff of Shropshire in 1461 and 1470. He was knighted at Tewkesbury on 4th May 1471. Guto’r Glyn, the Bard of Valle Crucis (1445-1475) wrote a 'cywydd' in Roger’s honour entitled 'Syr Rsoier Cinast o’r Cnwein' (Cinastor is still in use today by Welsh speakers. For they call Plaskynaston Plascinast). “Cywyddau” were written by the bards to honour several members of the Kynaston family. Roger married, firstly, c.1450 Elizabetha Cobham, borne c.1435, daughter of Danielus Cobham of Sterburgh Castle, Kent, and widow of Richard, 7th Lord Strange. They had one son: Sir Thomas Kynaston who was the heir and Sheriff of Shropshire in 1507/08. He married Maria Corbett, daughter of Sir Robertus Corbett of Morton, Shropshire, but he did not have 'legitimate offspring'. Elizabeth died in 1453. Roger secondly married Lady Elizabeth Grey of Powis Castle, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire in 1465. . . . "

According to early tradition, he was descended from the 'alte Babenberger' family whose genealogy is set out in the document dealing with Franconia, accounting for the later attribution of this name to the dynasty. This descent does not appear to have been based on any primary source proof. More recently, it has been suggested that Markgraf Liutpold was the son of Arnulf Duke of Bavaria [Liutpoldinger] but this theory appears to be based solely on onomastics. In fact, there are few typically 'Liutpoldinger' names among Markgraf Liutpold's children, in particular Eberhard, Berthold and Arnulf are absent. Reuter says that Markgraf Luitpold was 'related both to the Liutpoldinger and indirectly to the Babenberger but the basis for this statement is not known. His birth date is estimated on the basis that he was a young adult when installed as Markgraf. Graf in der Nordgau. The necrology of Regensburg St Emmeran records the death 'VI Id Jul' of 'Liutpolt marchio com'. - m Richwara, daughter of Ernst Graf im Sualafeld & his wife _____ (-bur Stift Melk). The primary source which confirms her marriage has not yet been identified. According to 'Europäische Stammtafeln', the wife of Markgraf I was the daughter of Graf Ernst. The primary source on which this is based has not yet been identified. It is possible that it is based solely on onomastic speculation, because of the transmission of the name Ernst into the Babenberg family with her son." 'Van' attended Andover Academy in Andover, MA and Yale University, where he majored in history. After a post-graduation tour of Europe, he became active in Republican reform politics in the Third Ward, Yonkers, NY. He met his wife in the hospital (where she was working as a nutritionist) after a New Year's touch football injury. They were engaged in March and married in June of the same year. After their marriage, he worked as a real estate agent in Yonkers until receiving the financing to develop Cross County Shopping Center, when he started Eastern Shopping Centers, Inc. Through this company, he developed many early shopping centers including Vestal Plaza near Binghamton, NY and Prince George's Plaza in MD. The family moved from Yonkers to a large 'old' house in the Edgemont area of Greenburgh, Westchester County, NY before 1950. The children attended school in the Edgemont School system. They lived in Edgemont until Van & Dorothy retired to their 150-acre tree farm in Middlebury, VT (purchased & used as a vacation home 1957-1966) in 1966, following his first coronary. They both died there. Van's funeral was held at the Scarsdale Community Baptist Church in Westchester County, NY, where the family had attended from the late 1940's to 1966. He was buried at Woodlawn in his parents' family plot. Dorothy's ashes are buried in one of her flower gardens near the house in Middlebury, VT."
