[50856] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 26 August 1969, p. 25: "Milbridge - Vernon K. Brackett, 84, died Sunday morning at an Ellsworth hospital following a long illness. He was born at Milbridge, June 27, 1885, the son of Benjamin and Clara (Fickett) Brackett. He was the husband of the late Mary (Wallace) Brackett. As a young man Brackett worked as a lobster fisherman and in the sardine factories at Lubec. He attended Castine Normal School and Bates College at Lewiston, graduating in 1912. Following a career as a school teacher in rural schools in Maine, he served as superintendent of schools in South Royalton, Vt., and Littletown, N. H. from 1922 to 1955. A former resident of Canton, Mass, he was superintendent of the Industrial School for Criple Children in Boston. Under his administration the school made marked progress in aiding many handicapped children in the Boston area to become self-aupporting individuals. He received his 60 year masonic pin in 1968. He was initiated into Pleiades Lodge A. F. and A. M. of Milbridge on Nov. 11, 1907 and was a present member of the Blue Hill Lodge of Canton, Mass. He was a member of Bates College Club and served may years on the Alumni Fund Committee. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frances B. Morrison of Silver Springs, Md. and Mrs. Verna B. Kirby of Silver Springs and Korea; three grandsons and two great-grand children."

He was born October 18, 1923 in Mansfield to William and Pauline (King) Heichel, and was graduated from Madison High School in 1941. Robert served with the US Army during WWII with the 672nd Amphibian Tractor Battalion in the Pacific Theater. He was recognized for outstanding service earning an American Theater ribbon, Asiatic Pacific theater ribbon with three bronze stars, and a Philippine liberation ribbon with one bronze star. He was a life member of Irvin Hiskey Post #535 American Legion, Bellville, and Ontario V.F.W. Post 7651, and a member of William O. Naylor Post #43 AMVETS, Bellville. An avid reader, Robert enjoyed collecting books and other material concerning WWII, as well as building model airplanes. A Bellville area resident most of life, he worked as an assembler with the General Motors plant 20 years, prior to his retirement in 1988. A loving father and devoted grandfather, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law Donald and Judy Heichel of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Dan and Kathy Heichel of Bellville and David and Pat Heichel of Lexington; six grandchildren Rob and his fiancée Jennifer, Jim, Todd and his wife Melissa, Melanie and her husband Shevan, Joe, and Troy; three step grandchildren Michelle and her husband Shawn, Deborah, and Tammy; two great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law William and Diana Heichel of Mansfield; and two sisters Dorothy Ball and Donna Heichel both of Mansfield; and numerous nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy M. (Farst) Heichel on September 15, 2003; an infant son and two grandchildren Scott and Laurie."

[9640] Charles emigrated to IL about 1887 and farmed near Sparland, then in Saratoga Twp. until his retirement about 1925 when they moved to Milo. "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania], 16 December 1942," p. 3: "Charles L. Thumma, whose home in his youth was at Loysville, died at his late residence in Milo township, Bureau county, Illinois, on the 21st of November, 1942, at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 24 days. The deceased was a son of John and Julia Ann (Briner) Thumma and was born in Loysville June 28, 1859. He went to Illinois about fifty-five years ago and together with his brother, Samuel, took up farming. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Aletta Van Ostrand in Henry, Ill., on December 20, 1892. They lived on a farm near Sparland for about six years, then moved to Saratoga township where they resided until they retired from farming about seventeen years ago, when they moved to Milo. Mr. and Mrs. Thumma were the parents of four children, Glenn, of Milo; John Harold, of Whitefish, Mont.; Anna Marie (Mrs. Marie Max), Peoria, and Ariel Mabelle, of Peoria, who with the widow and ten grandchildren, survive. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Anna Doyle, of Henry. A brother, Samuel, preceded him in death. Mr. Thumma was of a quiet disposition, a kind father and a true neighbor. He loved to read and always kept abreast of the times by his daily papers and radio news broadcasts. Mr. Thumma was a member of the Saratoga Methodist Church, where services were held Tuesday, November 24, with the Rev. Cobb, of Bradford, officiating."
