David and his wife are buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA. The 1860 federal census in Unity Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA lists David Pollins [sic} (age 48) with wife Sarah (age 40) and children Jesse Pollins (14), Sarah Jane Pollins (13), John W Pollins (11) and Anne E Pollins (9). He was the son of Sir Walter Scott, 3rd of Buccleuch and Elizabeth Carmichael. He married Grizel Bethune, daughter of Sir John Bethune, 2nd of Creich and Janet Hay, circa 1548. He died before 19 May 1552. He fought in the Battle of Pinkie on 10 September 1547.3 He lived at Branxholm, Scotland." An unverified file in Ancestry.com in 2013 states In 1543, Janet Beaton, instituted a suit of divorce against Simon Preston, Laird of Craigmiller, and the grounds given for her suit was that she had had illicit intercourse with Sir Walter Scott of Buccleuch and that he and Simon Preston were within the prohibited degrees of consanguinity, as the one was the great-grandson and the other the great-great-grandson of a common ancestor. On that plea her union with Simon Preston was declared null and void; and the motive of the suit immediately became manifest, for she then married Sir Walter Scott on 2nd of December 1544.
