[3650] Yaroslav "the Wise" brought Kievan Rus to a pinnacle internally and in its foreign relations; he build a cathedral (Santa Sophia) in Kiev, codified laws, expanded westward into Poland and defeated the Petchenegs. John L. LaMonte, "The World of the Middle Ages" (New York: Appleton..., 1949), p. 149, states "...Russia had in the eleventh century a culture and civilization far superior to that of England, Frank or Western Europe generally...Kiev was the greatest capital of Christendom after Constantinople." See http://koti.phnet.fi/ossian/taube.htm#Table%20251
[12036] This person is presumed living.
[13676] Cora is daughter of Andrew Scobie and Rebecca Johnson. Andrew Scobie was born in Glasgow, Scotland. An Andrew Scobie, age 14, is shown in the 1880 census as a cigar store employee in Cleveland, Ohio, son of William Scobie (age 46, a carpenter) and wife Agnes (age 34); this census lists siblings and reports that all family members were born in Scotland - could this be our Andrew?
[4991] See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 91. Robert was Earl of Gloucester, Lord of Creully in Calvados, Baron of Thoringni, Lord of Tewkesbury. He is grandson of Hamo Dentatus, slain at Val-ed-Danes in 1047, but his parents are not known. [ref.: "Royal Ancestors...," Collins, p. 102.] Tewkesbury is 15.5 miles NE of Gloucester, and was a Roman military encampment and later a Saxon stronghold, and a borough with a market in 1087. It was granted to Earl Robert of Gloucester. {-Encycl.Brit.,`56,21:990-1}
