Dorset, and held lands in Axminster, co. Devon, that had been his father's and four burgages in Bridport. He was searcher of Port of Poole and a burgess in Parliament for Bridport in 1558. On the north wall of the chancel of the Church of the Holy Trinity, the parish church of Fleet, co. Robert went to Castine during the war with England to work in a shipyard; he died from a beating administered by local "Tories" because he refused to drink a toast to King George. {-Samuel Eliot Morison, "The Story of Mount Desert Island, Maine" (Boston: Little, Brown & Co.,1960, p. 31)} The Eagle newspaper carried this advertisement 18 June 1811: "Lost, yesterday afternoon, between Castine and Lymburner's Ferry, in Penobscot, a Red Morocco Pocket Book, nearly new, with the edges trimmed with silver, containing a Note signed by Jeremiah T. & Jonah Holt of Blue Hill, for 25 dollars, 28 cents, payable to the Subscriber --a five dollar bill, and several other papers of no use to any person but the owner. - Whoever will return the same at this office, shall be generously rewarded. - Robert Snowman, June 4."
