[52475] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 21 December 2022: " Ellsworth - Linda E. Bragdon Mason, 72, died unexpectedly Dec. 19, 2022, in Ellsworth. She was born in Ellsworth Sept. 6, 1950, the daughter of Lester E. Bragdon and Rachel E. Bragdon Hutchins. Linda graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1968. After high school she worked waitressing, in retail, and for most of her career in billing and human resources at a local hospital. She enjoyed communicating by CB radio when it was popular, doing ceramics, crocheting and watching Boston sports teams. She loved cooking for family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, always cooking enough for leftovers to go home. We will all miss her Chex mix, peanut butter fudge, deviled eggs and beef stew. The family poker nights will not be the same without her huge smile when winning and sarcastic comments. Linda loved her grandchildren and enjoyed attending birthday parties, school events and graduations. She enjoyed caring for them when they were young. Linda truly loved showering them and family with gifts, usually taking days off after Christmas to start shopping for the next Christmas. Linda is survived by her life partner, Neil McKay; daughter Stephanie Currier and husband, Sean; two sons, Timothy Mason and wife, Tara, and Shawn McKay; brother Wayne Bragdon and two sisters, Mary Wood and husband, Peter, and Judy Tucker; seven grandchildren, Stephanies children, Rachel and Spencer Harris and Colby Currier, Tims children Taylor and Tanner Mason, Shawns children Kelly and Sam McKay as well as six cherished nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Linda was predeceased by close family member Michael DiGangi."

William died on 25 Sep 1254, immediately on his return from service in Gascony with the king. He was laid in his grave at Studley Priory, Warwickshire by Simon de Montfort, earl of Leicester and Humphrey de Bohun, earl of Hereford, Eva's brother in law. (William was the older brother of Saint Thomas de Cantilupe, Bishop of Hereford.) Child 1: Joan de Cantilupe (d 1271) = Sir Henry de Hastings (1235-1268). Their son John inherited Abergavenny. Child 2: Milicent de Cantilupe (d 1299) = (1) John de Montalt. [51043] "The Ellsworth American [Ellswirth, ME], 5 August 2022": "Marion Louise Strout, 87, died Aug. 2, 2022, at an Ellsworth hospital after a short illness. She was born March 31, 1935, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Walter L. and Margaret L. (Bunker) Giles. Marion grew up on the Surry Road and, upon graduation, married her high school sweetheart and moved to Ellsworth, where she raised her family. When Marions kids were of school age, she worked at the Knowlton School as a cook. She later worked at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper until her retirement. In earlier years, when her husband, Allen, was alive, most weekends were spent at dance halls, where they were recognized by many for their dancing skills. Marion had a passion for cooking and spent a large amount of her time in the kitchen. She was an avid nature lover. Marion especially loved animals of all kinds, and even had a pet-sitting service for a time and provided extra special care for her clients four-legged family members. She lived a simple, humble life, who asked for little and lived by the credo 'It is what it is.' She was very quick-witted and had a good sense of humor. During the summer, she loved going to Newbury Neck in Surry and gathering sea lavender. Marion is survived by her three children, Albert Strout and wife, Diane, of Hancock, Andrew Strout and wife, Stacey, of Lincolnville and daughter Sheryl McCarthy and husband, Michael, of Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Meghan, Evan, Missy, James, Scott, Jackson and Abby; seven great-grandchildren; sister Rita Jordan of Ellsworth; many nieces and nephews and a very special cousin, Charleen Bunker. She was predeceased by her husband, Allen J. Strout, sister Shirley Barker and brother Albert Giles."

Hamilton was the son of James, the 1st Earl of Arran (1475 - 1529) and, through his mother, great-grandson of King James II (1430-60). This gave rise to Hamilton's claim to the throne of Scotland. His half-brother Sir James Hamilton of Finnart (d.1540) acted as his guardian, following the death of their father. Hamilton became Regent on the death of King James V (1512 - 1542) and gained his French Duchy for negotiating the marriage of the young Mary, Queen of Scots (1542 - 1587) to the Dauphin of France (1549). He demitted the Regency in favour of Mary of Lorraine (1515-60) in 1554 on condition that he would get the Crown if the young Mary died childless, however his claim seemed lost when it became clear that the succession was promised to France. However this planned succession did not take place when Mary's husband, by then King Francis II of France, died. Hamilton then tried unsuccessfully to arrange a marriage between Mary and his son, another James (c.1537 - 1609). Hamilton's sympathies swayed between support for Queen Mary and the Protestant nobles who wished to see her removed, undoubtedly because he still hoped to fall heir to the throne. He withdrew to his French estates in 1565, returned in 1569, was arrested by Regent Moray (1531-70) and finally signed the Pacification of Perth (1572) in which he acknowledged the succession of King James VI (1566 - 1625)."
