"Elizabethville Echo, 27 August 1959," p. 1: "Charles F. Mattern of Lykens R. D., a retired farmer, died on Friday at the age of 75 years. Mr. Mattern was a son of the late Jeremiah and Catherine (Biel) Mattern and was a native of the Klingerstown community. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lykens. His wife, the former Sadie Snyder, preceded him in death. He is survived by five sons: Ralph Mattern, of Lykens; Dr. Paul Mattern, Hatboro; Woodrow Mattern, Lykens R. D.; Rev. Ivan Mattern of Wichita, Kansas; and Lawrence Mattern of West Lawn, Pa.; and twelve grandchildren. AIso surviving are a brother, William, of Shamokin; and five sisters: Mrs. Katie Gessner, of Leck Kill; Mrs. Lizzie Groshinski and Mrs. Florence Grow, both of Shamokin; Mrs. Calvin Harris, Dornsife, and Mrs. Emma Mattern of Klingerstown R.
