[14486] "The Boston Globe [Boston, Massachusetts], 3 September 1892," p. 8: "Holbrook, Mass., Sept. 3. Mr. Lemuel S. Whitcomb, of the firm of Whitcomb & Paine, a prominent shoe manufacturer of this town, died at 2.40 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after a short illness. Deceased was bom in Holbrook (then East Randolph) in 1826. He entered the public schools and finished about the time he was 18 years of age. He then joined his father, with whom he continued for about six months. At the age of 19 he entered into the shoe manufacturing business with his brother-in-law, Mr. White, and continued under the firm name of White & Whitcomb for a number of years. Finally the firm dissolved, and about 1865 Mr. Whitcomb formed a partnership with Mr. Charles H. Paine, under the firm name of Whitcomb & Paine, in which he continued up to the time of his death.
