"Dayton Daily News, 14 February 1956," p. 8: "Troy - William Robert Shaffer, 34, of 575 Maplewood dr., died Saturday at Hamilton hospital in Dalton, Ga. Mr. Shaffer was emploved as a machinist at the Hobart Brothers company. He was a native of Piqua and was born Jan. 27, 1922, son of Roy and Ethel Siler Shaffer. Prior to his employment at Hobart Brothers company, he served as manager of Kroger stores in Covington, Piqua and Tipp City. Mr. Shaffer was a graduate of Troy high school and following his graduation he moved to Piqua, where he resided until December of 1931 when he moved back to Troy. He was a veteran of World War II and served as a machinist mate first class in the U. S. Navy in the South Pacific. Surviving are his wife, Mary; his parents who reside in Piqua; two children, Cheryl and William Robert II; five brothers. Earl, Lester, Fred, Norbert and Raymond Shaffer, all of Piqua, and Leo Gilbert Shaffer of four sisters, Mrs. Luella Lawhorn, Mrs. Robert Creager, Mrs. Robert Godfrey, all of Piqua and Mrs William Weymer of R. R. 2, Arcanum. Services will be at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Graven funeral home, Piqua. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery, Piqua."
