[767] Jonathan was one of three children of Enoch Hutchins, immigrant ancestor, taken captive to Quebec by the Indians at the death of Enoch in May, 1698. His brothers Benjamin and Samuel returned on a provincial galley boat 17 January 1699, but Jonathan was still in Canada in 1701 (returning to Maine by the time of his first arriage in 1709/10). In 1734 he resided in Kittery, Maine, and in 1737 at Bald Head Cliff at York, Maine. He was a carpenter and a farmer. He inherited his father's garrison house and another house nearby with barns and out-buildings with 30 acres along Spruce Creek. {-see "Hugh Hutchins of Old England," Jack R. Hutchins and Richard J. Hutchings (Baltimore: Gateway Press, 1984, pp. 690-1).} His estate was administered by son, Joseph 20 May 1746.
