[22531] Louise Staley offered on RootsWeb in 2002: "Charles Fitch-Northern in his "A Revision of the Grenville Pedigree" D&C Notes & Queries, Vol. XXXIV - Autumn 1979, pp.154-161, has this to say about Joice Beaumont - 'Sir Theobald is stated in the 1620 Visitation pedigree to have married Jois, daughter of Thomas Beaumont. A Beaumont marriage is probable. Otherwise it is difficult to account for the entry in Sir George Carew's Scroll of Arms, dated 1588 listing the arms of Beaumont of Sherwill, Devon: "barry of six vairry arg. & bleu, 3 bars g." which, he states: "this coate standeth in Bideford Church." Here, all the early armorial belong to the Grenville lords of the manor. But no Thomas Beaumont of this family appears to have been born before ca. 1367. Sir Theobald was a witness in 1372 to a deed by Dame Jane Turberville, who was the wife of Richard Beaumont of Sherwill, to her son John Beaumont. As against these clues, the statement by Roger Granville that Theobald married a daughter of Thomas Beaumont, Earl of Mellent (in France) appears pretentious! " The Beaumont of Sherwill line is poorly understood. It is clear however that Joice was not related to the French earls of Mellent as claimed by some Grenville authors. I am not aware of evidence for her father being James Beaumont of Warwickshire however I assume this James is part of the earls of Warwick line and I believe this to be highly unlikely given the relative unimportance of the Grenvilles outside Cornwall."

[14267] Thomas Hinckley was from Hawkhurst in Kent, England. He and his family arrived on the ship Hercules in 1635 and first settled in Scituate, but moved to Barnstable where he remained for the rest of his life. See NEHGR 2:194. Thomas first married (16 March 1660 at Barnstable) Mary Richards, then Mary [Smith] Glover (ca. 1650-1703) after Mary Richards's death. He had seventeen children. Thomas became Governor of the Plymouth Colony. See Hugh A. Johnson's "Hinckley Genealogy", Pope's "Pioneers of Mass." and James Savage's "Settlers of New England"(II:424). He owned much land in the Plymouth Colony and was an important political leader, serving as deputy, magistrate, assistant, deputy governor and as the last governor of the Colony for nearly ten years before it merged with the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
