She was born in Bar Harbor June 3, 1903, the daughter of Luray and Edith (Color) Higgins. She was a graduate of the University of Maine with a B.S. degree. She taught school in Bar Harbor, Trenton, Veazie and Ellsworth for a total of 33 years. She was a member of Irene Chapter, O.E.S. of Ellsworthm the Bayside Grange and various teacher's groups. She is survived by one son, Ray Closson of Ellsworth two daughters Corris Sittnick of Connecticut and Marie Liberty of Ellsworth; one brother, A. Victor Higgins of Mount Desert; one sister, Ruth H. Sargent of Bar Harbor; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Merle Closson of Ohio in 1974."
