[60498] Barbara's obituary: "Prospect - Barbara A. Tilley, 87, passed away at her home with her loving family by her side on Wednesday January 29, 2025. She was born on May 28, 1937, the daughter of Hayward and Ruth (Cyr) Haley. She attended schools in Bangor, and Searsport until settling into a life in Prospect. She married Richard Herbest and had 4 children. After her divorce she proudly purchased a house in Prospect for herself and her children that became her lifelong residence. Barbara later in life met Paul Tilley and they were married in October 1964 and had a daughter together. They were married for 54 years until his passing in 2018. After retiring Barbara and Paul each purchased antique cars and enjoyed traveling to car shows and being members of Coastal Antique Auto Club together. Barbara was a hard-working woman whether it was waitressing or owning and operating The Prospect Corner Store with her husband for 7 years. She also worked for the shoe factory until she went to work at St. Regis Papermill in Bucksport in 1977 where she became the first woman foremen in Production. She also served as secretary and Vice President of local Union 261.She retired from the papermill in 1999. In Barbaras years of living in Prospect she served on many committees. She was a Town Selectman, a School Board Representative, member of the Historical Society, the Cemetery Association, and Prospect Community Center. She served many roles with the Prospect Community Center. She served as secretary, treasurer, and President throughout the years, handled the heating oil fund, setting up and cooking for many town suppers and hunters breakfasts, organized the kids Christmas parties, and parades. If there was an event in Prospect you know that you would see Barbara right there helping and supporting in any way. She enjoyed every moment of it. Barbara took a lot of pride in Prospect. She would refer to it as 'her town' and she was very proud of her town. Barbara for many years reported the town news in both the Republican Journal and the Bucksport Enterprise. She once wrote 'Lets get Prospect on the map again!' When she gave up her column at 87, the Republican Journal honored her with an article and called her The Heart of Prospect. Barbara is survived by her daughter Rosemarie Webster and her significant other Rich Whitlock, daughter Lisa Sutherland and husband Dwayne. 9 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren, and 3 Great Great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents Barbara was predeceased by her husband Paul Tilley and her children Richard Herbest Jr, Thomas H. Herbest, Debbie Herbest Valenoti, her brother and sister in law Harold Haley and wife Susan Haley."
[13388] Myron, age 4 in the 1910 federal census in Lansing, MI is in the family of Edward May, age 38, b. in NY, and wife Mary, age 31, b. in IL. Myron and his family are listed in the federal census at Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., IN in 1940 and at Portland, Ionia Co., MI in 1930. "May Name Meaning - English, French, Danish, Dutch, and German: from a short form of the personal name Matthias (see Matthew) or any of its many cognates, for example Norman French Maheu. English, French, Dutch, and German: from a nickname or personal name taken from the month of May (Middle English, Old French mai, Middle High German meie, from Latin Maius (mensis), from Maia, a minor Roman goddess of fertility). This name was sometimes bestowed on someone born or baptized in the month of May; it was also used to refer to someone of a sunny disposition, or who had some anecdotal connection with the month of May, such as owing a feudal obligation then. English: nickname from Middle English may 'young man or woman'. Irish (Connacht and Midlands): when not of English origin (see 1-3 above), this is an Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Miadhaigh 'descendant of Miadhach', a personal name or byname meaning 'honorable', 'proud'" - Source: Dictionary of American Family Names ©2013, Oxford University Press
