Bright, treasurer of Yocum Brothers, cigar manufacturers, Reading is a native of Bernville, where he was born May 6, 1859, son of Aaron M. and Mary (Kilmer). He was educated in the township schools, the Bernville high school, and later in the Keystone State Normal School, at Kutztown, graduating from the latter institution in 1881. He taught school when only eighteen years of age in Penn township, and after his graduation he taught five terms, two at Myerstown and three in the grammar school at West Leesport. In 1886 he came to Reading, and accepted the position of bookkeeper with Yocum Brother, cigar manufacturers, which position he faithfully filled for seventeen years, when James Yocum a member of the firm died, and the company was incorporated under the name of Yocum Brothers. Mr. Bright became its treasurer, an office he has since filled. He is a director of the corporation, and was also for one year its secretary. He has given his work great attention, and has devoted his energies to making the corporation a success. They employ on an average 400 people, and their product is know all over the country. Mr. Bright is very prominent in fraternal organizations. He is a member of Progressive Lodge, No. 470, I.O.O.F., and was its efficient secretary for fifteen consecutive years, declining further service on the ground of ill health. He has been an active member of the lodge and served as degree master on the staff for many years. He also belongs to Isaac Hiester Lodge, No. 660, F. & A. M., of Reading; Camp No. 113, P.O.S. of A. of Bernville; Castle No. 51, K.G.E. of Reading; Mount Penn Encampment, No. 152, I.O.O.F.; Canton Patriarchs Militant No. 2, I.O.O.F.
On May 14, 1889, Mr. Bright married Emma Madora Ketner, daughter of Charles and Susan (Rohrbach) Ketner, of Leesport, and they have two children: Harry, born Feb. 5, 1890; and Helen, Sept. 25, 1893. They reside in their own home. No. 122 South Tenth street, Reading. Mr. Bright and his family attend the Reformed Church. "
"Reading Times [Reading, PA], 26 September 1924," p. 3: "Apparently the victim of a stroke of apoplexy, Lehman I. Bright, aged 65, prominent cigar manufacturer and treasurer of Yocum Bros., Inc., was found dead in bed at his home, 410 Windsor St., yesterday afternoon. His lifeless body was discovered by his wife and other members of the family when they returned from Atlantic City. Coroner Rorke said death had occurred several days ago. Mr. Bright left this city Saturday in company with his family for a week-end trip to the shore. He returned Sunday night, leaving his family to enjoy several days additional vacation. He apparently retired Sunday night and was stricken as he lay in bed. Mr. Bright was a native of Bernville. For the past 38 years he was connected with the Yocum firm and since its incorporation in 1903, served as treasurer of the corporation. He was the son of the late Aaron N. and Mary (Kilmer) Bright. His early education was received in the district schools and graduated from Keystone Normal School. He was a teacher in the Jefferson township schools and other districts about Berks and Lebanon counties. Mr. Bright was a member of Isaac Hiester Lodge, F. and. A. M., the Shrine, and was for many years was secretary of the Odd Fellows. He held membership in the Knights of Golden Eagles and the P. O. S. of A. A member of the First Reformed church, he was an active member of the Bible class. He is survived by his widow, Emma (Kettner) Bright, and two children, Harry A., a government chemist, located at Washington, and one daughter, Helen, at home. The following brothers and sisters also survive him, D. K. Bright, Mahanoy City; A. R. Bright, this city, and Mrs. Elizabeth Zellers, Stouchsburg."

She was born May 31, 1944, in Castine, a daughter of James and Virginia (Hatch) Yates. Helen grew up in Blue Hill and graduated from George Stevens Academy in 1962. She married Melvin Blake, July 3, 1962, and moved to Brooksville. Helen was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She was a troop leader for the Girl Scouts and enjoyed the trip to Mexico for our Cabana in Cuernavaca. She enjoyed spending time with family at the camp, attending activities with Winter and Barbara, attending the annual Brooksville Library function and JCG tournament. She also enjoyed knitting items for Winter, Barbara and members of the community; and reading multiple books at a time. Helen couldnt have been a better wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Melvin; daughter, Barbara Blake-Chapman and husband, Rodney Jr.; son, Norman Yates; grandchildren, Winter Ruby Blake-Chapman, Alex Yates, and Caroline Yates; brother, James Yates; and sister, Vivian Moon and husband, Hiram; special nieces, Sharon Moon and Stacy Warren; and two nephews, Keith Moon and Boyd Black. She was predeceased by her parents; and a baby boy."
