Ida is daughter of Leon S. Phillippi (1856-1941) and Amanda Brougher (1856-1928). Linda Doty (Kinquest@pyramid.net) wrote via Internet 25 April 1998:
Leonidas Samuel Phillippi apparently went to KS/NE with his aunt and her family - the Bittners. He was close to one of their children, called Netta. He may have gone because he loved Amanda Brougher and her family went to Hiawatha, Brown Co., KS. Another single guy, Peter Weimer, went along, and married Amanda's younger sister, Missouri.
Anyway, Amanda Brougher was born 9 Oct 1856 in Brothersvalley, Somerset Co. PA and died in Wenatchee, WA 21 April 1928. Their children were:
>Ida Belle b. 14 July 1878 Morrill, Brown Co. KS m. Hiram Mishler. Only one of the family to remain in KS. (I used to correspond with Helen Van Horn, so I have a lot of information on Ida's family)
>Arthur Bruce b. 1 July 1880 KS m. Blanche Levers in Sabetha, KS. Arthur died about 1955 in Wenatchee, WA - the first funeral I ever attended. Blanche joined the Brethren Church and was baptized in the Columbia River in December (!!) and got pneumonia and died, leaving Arthur with two young children: Ida and Howard. Little Ida looked like Blanche and Arthur couldn't look at her and ignored her. His second wife, Ethel, followed suit. Ida eloped and Arthur brought her home and annulled the marriage. Her second attempt (I don't know if it was the same guy) succeeded. Fern Cox was her husband, and I remember going to Bonners Ferry Idaho to pick huckleberries with Ida and my grandma and mother. Arthur's grandson, Greg, lives in Wenatchee and runs the Phillippi Fruit Co. He's a very nice man.
>Minnie Maude b. 7 Sept 1882 Morrill, KS d. 6 July 1946 Wenatchee, WA. She married John C. (Jules) Sperline and they had a large family of 13-15.
>Ross Lincoln b. 19 April 1887 Hardy, Nuckolls Co. NE d. 15 Sept 1956 in Portland, OR where he lived with wife Grace G. and 2 sons. I think there are still Ross Lincoln Phillippi's there.
>Florence May (my grandma) b. 18 March 1889 Hardy, NE d. 8 Oct 1971 Wenatchee, WA. Married Ernest Daniel McMillen 5 Feb 1906 in Wenatchee, WA. Three daughters: Velma (1907), Ardys (1910) and my mother, Dorothy (1914)
>Roy Clarence b. 14 Aug 1890 Hardy NE d. 25 July 1903 Wenatchee, WA - my grandma was closest to Roy and grieved a lot for him.
>Earl b. 3 Oct 1892 Hardy NE d. 25 Oct 1892 Hardy NE
>Elmer Ray b. 13 Oct 1893 Hardy NE d. 14 Aug 1894 Henry Co. MO
>Ernest b. 25 Jan 1895 Henry Co. NE d. 2 Sept 1895 Henry Co. MO.
>Ira L. Phillippi, b. 11 May 1896 in Henry Co. MO m. Idona Munson (called Betty) and they had 2 daughters - one never married and the other is rumored to have died from an abortion.
I've been married to Ron Doty since June 13, 1965 and we have 2 daughters: Heather Kay Doty b. 4 July 1970 m. Aaron Contreras - one child: Alexander Donivan b. 8 March 1998; andMerisa Catherine Doty b. 3 March 1975 m. Daniel Paas. Heather, Aaron, and Alex live in CA and Merisa and Dan live in Virginia Beach, VA (Dan is in the Navy). Ron and I live (retired) in Gardnerville, NV on one acre.
[Note by AEM: Linda also has much Phillippi ancestry.]
[43406] "Ancestors of a 21st century British family" at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com in 2017 provides Marie's information and states: "Inscriptions on the back of miniatures in the possession of Sir Erasmus Borrowes give these details: (1) Maria de la Rochefoucaud de Champagne, daughter of Casimir, second son of Charles duc de la Rochefoucaud; (2) Messire Josias de Robillard de Champagne, Seigneur de Champagne, Bernere d'Agere, &c. Thus both husband and wife were descendants of ancient and noble families. Their son, Major Josias Champagne, fought under William of Orange at the battle of the Boyne and made his home at Portarlington. He married a daughter of the Earl of Granard, and their eldest son, the Dean of Clacmanoise, married the daughter of another French refugee, and their eldest daughter became the Countess of Uxbridge."

[53661] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 9 May 2023: "Milbridge - Josie Marie (Strout) Colewell, 83, died peacefully April 30, 2023. She was born March 6, 1940, in Milbridge to Lawrence and Sylvia (Tibbetts) Strout. Josie grew up in Milbridge, spending her summers at the family camp in Pigeon Hill. Over the years, she worked at L. Ray Packing, made wreaths, and spent 30-plus years packing sardines at Stinsons Seafood until she retired to take care of her ailing husband. Josie married Byron Colewell Oct. 20, 1973. During their marriage Josie and Byron could be found dancing the night away on Saturday nights, working side by side in their vegetable garden, or canning the fruits of their labor in the fall. They spent 29 years together until Byrons death on March 30, 2003. After her husbands death, Josie went back to work at Stinsons until it closed in 2010. From there she worked at Live Lobster until her own health started to decline. At any given time you could see Josie sitting on her deck for hours, reading various genres of books (Karen Kingsbury and Amish books being her favorites), doing a word search, working on an embroidery project, or searching for a new lighthouse to add to her collection. She enjoyed any time she could spend with her family and friends. Josie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her six children: Lawrence McManus (Dawn), Suzette McManus Grant (Embert), Leroy McManus (Lisa), Laurie Perry (Leon), Charles McManus and Jody Colewell King (Jeff); 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a sister, Lozina Strout Wilbur, many nieces and nephews and close friends Linda and Wayne Willey, Clyde and Mary Ellen Jordan and Nancy Harrington. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, one daughter, one grandson, one granddaughter, one sister and one brother. The family would like to thank Dr. Casey Hanson and the staff at Trenton Healthcare, as well as the staff at Narraguagus Bay Healthcare Assisted Living for their care over the years."
