"The Perry County Democrat [Bloomfield, PA], 19 February 1919," p. 3: "Mrs. Absalom Rice, of Saville township, died at her home on last Saturday from Bright's disease after a long illness. She was aged 8O years, 11 mouths and 5 days. Mrs. Martha Jane Rice was the daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Newcomer) Titzcl and was born in the year 1839. She was united in marriage to Mr. Rice and to them seven children were born, five of whom survive, namely: Scott, of Saville township; Orlando, of Pittsburgh; McCIelIan, of Kilmer, Juniata county; John, of Elliottsburg, and Mrs. Lottie Rodder, of Philadelphia. Mrs. Rice was a good christian woman, and a pillar in the Reformed church, of which she had been a member for many years. In her neighborhood she will be much missed as she had a generous and loving disposition. A host of friends mourn her loss. Burial was made Tuesday morning at Saville with services by her pastor, Rev. E. V. Strashaugh, of Blain Reformed charge."
