She was born June 20, 1949, in Castine, the daughter of William R. and Ruth I. (Colby) Wardwell. Ellen and William owned and operated Bar Harbor Weathervanes, a coppersmith and weathervane business, with their family and continues now three generations strong. Ellen also enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving in addition to her mother, Ruth, of Bangor, are one daughter, Susan Satterfield and her husband, Todd and their two daughters, Riley and Jamey Satterfield; five stepchildren, Annette Dawson, William McElvain and his wife, Patti, Elizabeth Lowe and her husband, Merle, Paul McElvain and Sarah, David McElvain and his wife, Suzanne; two brothers, Dana Wardwell and his wife, Paulette, of Bucksport and Frank Wardwell and Elaine of Bangor; a sister-in-law, Patti Rump of Bucksport; many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her father and by three siblings, Joyce, James and Timothy."
