A road connecting these two roads and adjacent to the property became known as the Peterman Road. U.S. 30 is the original trail used by the settlers on their way west. The Peterman farm is approximately one mile south of that trail and on the eastern edge of Liberty Township. Michael was a veteran of the Civil War. He died Friday morning at 6:30. Michael and his brother John were wagon masters on a train during the Gold Rush years [1849]. When John's wife, who had accompanied them on the trip, became ill, the couple returned home. Michael remained with the train, but by the time they reached Missouri, he too had taken ill. Michael & his family were taken into the home of the nortorious James brothers and nursed back to health. Upon recovering, Michael & his family also returned home."
