He murdered Sir William Douglas in August 1353, without male issue. In August 1353 he slew his kinsman, William Douglas. He fought in the Battle of Poitiers on 19 September 1356, where he was wounded. Through his marriage, William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas gained the title of Earl of Mar before 13 November 1357. He was created 1st Earl of Douglas [Scotland] on 26 January 1357/58. He held the office of Warden of the Marches." "The Great Historic Families of Scotland", by James Taylor (London: J.S Virtue & Co., 1889), p. 49: "William Douglas, son of the Regent who fell at Halidon Hill, and nephew of the 'Good Sir James,' returned from France, where he had been bred to arms, soon after the battle of Neville's Cross and the captivity of the Scottish king, and, with the hereditary valour and energy of his house, succeeded in expelling the English from Douglasdale, and in the course of time from Ettrick Forest, Tweeddale, and Teviotdale. He was created Earl of Douglas by King David in 1357. He faithfully supported the cause of national independence, and even went so far as to unite with the Steward and the Earl of March in a formal bond to compel David to change his counsellors and to give up his intrigues for altering the succession to the crown in favour of one of the sons of the English king. He made a pilgrimage to the shrine of St. Thomas-à-Becket in the year 1363; but, unlike some others of the great Scottish barons, who made such pilgrimages a pretext for treasonable intrigues with the English Government, Douglas continued steadfast in his adherence to his country's cause, and resolutely opposed the attempts of the unworthy son of Robert Bruce to betray it to the enemy. On the accession of Robert II., the son of the Steward and Marjory Bruce, the Earl of Douglas unexpectedly put forth pretensions to the crown, but abandoned them on finding that they were not likely to meet with public support. As a reward for the promptitude of his submission, the King's eldest daughter was promised in marriage to his eldest son, and the Earl himself was appointed Justiciar of Scotland south of the Forth, and Warden of the East Marches. This great noble, one of the best of his race, died in 1384 at an advanced age. He was succeeded by his eldest son by his wife the Countess of Mar." "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 11 January 2024: "Bucksport - Ruth E. Bunt passed away at age 107, on January 9, 2024. She was a fixture for seventy-four years on the River Road in Bucksport, and spent her earlier years on the Leaches' Point Road in Orland. Ruth was born September 26, 1916, and she was one of nine children born to Edith (Davis) and George Harper. Her mother died in childbirth when Ruth was three, and the children were sent to various homes. One brother, Donald (nee:Richard), was adopted by a wealthy family in New York. He was very homesick and missed his sister, Ruth. His family sent for Ruth to join them. When 'Ruth' got off the train, the family welcomed her, but Donald said, 'It may be 'Ruth' to you, but it looks like 'Phyllis' to me!' Instead of sending for the real 'Ruth,' Phyllis's name was changed to--'Ruth.' Therefore, there were two sisters in the same family named 'Ruth.' The 'real' Ruth was eventually adopted by Purl and Bernice Ames also of Orland. She had many happy years living on their farm, riding horses, wandering in the woods and fields. She met a tall, handsome man at a dance and eventually married David E. Bickford and had two children. They moved to her beloved home on the river road where they farmed and raised laying hens. They were married thirty years when David died in 1964. She had taken piano lessons as a child, and eventually became organist/pianist for the North Bucksport Methodist Church, a position she held for fifty years. She still played piano at home up until a few months ago. She never lost her love of reading and would always have a book or two going.
During her first 'widow' years, she traveled and enjoyed two trips to England and Scotland. She was interested in British history and was proud of her British/Scandinavian ancestry. She reconnected with the other 'Ruth,' and they traveled together to South America and saw the Amazon, Nazca plains, and the Galapagos Islands. She met Robert Bunt - at a dance - and they were married in 1985. They were married for almost twenty years. Bob died in 2004, and Ruth was a widow again. Ruth is survived by her son, Donald Bickford and his wife, Gloria, of Orland and Sebring, FL; and her daughter, Jeannie Tabor and her husband, Gary, of Ripley, ME. She leaves five grandchildren: Jane, Anne, Jessica, John and Ross; and four great-grandchildren: Riley, Charlotte, Mia and Aurora. She also leaves nieces and nephews, especially Laura Snow and David Gallagher. Besides her husbands, she was predeceased by her siblings; and an infant great-grandson, Samuel. Many thanks for the love and care provided by Jill, Loris, Mary, Sheri, and Tammy, who cared for her in her home for many months. Also, thanks to the caring staff at Stillwater Healthcare and Beacon Hospice. Burial will be in the spring in the Maine Veterans' Cemetery in Augusta, where she will be beside her beloved Robert at last."

There are conflicting accounts of his parentage, one popular solution making him son and successor to a count Berenger (sometimes identified with Berengar of Rennes, sometimes with that man's supposed maternal grandson of the same name) by a daughter of Gurvand, Duke of Brittany. However, an 11th century collection of Angevin genealogies shows him to be son of Pascweten, son of Alan I, King of Brittany. He is first documented as count in 944. He witnessed charters of Alan II, Duke of Brittany, and on the latter's death apparently fell under the control of Wicohen, Archbishop of Dol, later sources reporting the rescue of Judicael and his (unnamed) wife by son Conan. He appears to have been dead by 979, when his son was at the court of Odo I, Count of Blois."

He lived in Bridgewater, Aroostook, Maine, United States in 1900 and Caribou, Aroostook, Maine, United States for about 10 years. He died on 16 August 1929, at the age of 74."
