She was born in Blue Hill on May 30, 1943, to Lawris and Lillian Grindle Closson. She was predeceased by her parents; sister Julia; son Lonnie; and grandson Aaron.
Jackie lived and worked in New York for more than 40 years before retiring back to her home in Blue Hill. She was a member of the Mountain Rebecca Lodge of
Blue Hill. She is survived by her sons, Donnie Perkins and his wife Etta, Timothy Perkins, and her daughter Lisa Ruby; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; she is also survived by four nieces and nephews. Some of her favorite times were sitting at her kitchen table visiting with her family and friends."

She was an RN and spent most of her career as a clinical coordinator for multiple home healthcare companies. Joan was very passionate about caring for terminally ill patients in their final hours. Joan was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Larry Giles. Surviving are her children, Kirsten Morton of Buxton, Adam Giles of AZ, Whitney Giles of Winterport, Andrew Giles of Limington; a sister, Linda Johnston of Freeport; and grandchildren, Zachary Breton, Sadie Giles, Aiden Giles, Joseph Morton, Lily Morton, Ronnie Morton, Wylie Newell, Jacob Giles, Porter Giles, Charlotte Giles and Nathan Spear."
