Maurice was "one of the justices of assize for the co. of Warwick, in the
13th and 16th Henry III, and a commissioner for assessing and collecting
the fourteenth part of all men's moveable goods, according to the form and
order then appointed. This feudal lord filled the office of justice of
assize for the same shire, a second and third time, and was repeatedly
justice for the gaol delivery at Warwick, in the same king's reign." -
Burke's "Dormant and Extinct Peerages, 1883, p. 63. Henry III and his
taxation programs are described in "The Magnificent Century," Thomas B.
Costain (Doubleday, 1951).

MS. Cleopatra, D III, f. 51, ex. inform. A.R. Wagner], was a distinguished soldier ... Originally, volume 4 said that John's parentage was unknown. Stewart Baldwin, in March 1998, and later others, referred to the work of F.N. Craig, The American Genealogist, vol. 63, pp. 145-153 (1988), arguing that a pedigree in the Hailes Abbey Chronicle is incorrect in making him a son of Edward I, and that he was probably the son of Guy de Botetourt (living 1274, 1316), by his wife Ada. Douglas Richardson, in October 2002, produced some supporting evidence."

[5104] http://ross.sphosting.com/d0/i0003979.htm states that Emeline is daughter of Urso Arbitot but offers no proof or source. Also see the unverified information at http://www.geneajourney.com/bchmp1.html. The LDS Church's unverified Ancestral File (HPGT-87) states that Urso (b. ca. 1050) is son of Robert d'Arbetot (Abbetot) Despencer (son of Amaury Raoul d'Albetot), but there is an apparent contradiction in the birth dates. "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 14, states she is "daughter of Urso, who was heir of brother Robert d'Abitot, who built Elmly Castle in Worcestershire, and was steward of William the Conqueror." - Boyer also states that Walter de Beauchamp and Emeline are parents of Emma who m. Ralph de Sudeley.
