[9821] "The Sentinel [Carlisle, PA], 25 October 1926," p. 5: "John D. Wert died at his home 29 North East street, this morning at 3 o'clock from a complication of diseases. Had he lived until Saturday he would have been 75 years old. He had been in declining health for a year or longer but was confined to bed for only about ten days. He suffered a broken hip sometime ago since which time his decline had been more rapid. Mr. Wert was a citizen of Carlisle for 35 years. He was born at Carlisle Springs where he was educated in a Select School. For some years he taught school in Middlesex and Frankford Township, and later conducted a store In Boiling Springs. He was a son of the late Samuel and Lydia Wert. He is survived by his widow and a brother Edward Wert of the West. Mr. Wert in the latter years of his life was employed as a painter. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, and for more than 50 years was a member of New Kingstown Lodge of Odd Fellows. He was also a member of the Owls." John m. 8 April 1875 S. Rebecca Neiswanger (b. 9 July 1859, d. 26 Feb 1951), buried with John. Buried with him and Rebecca is Augusta Perla Wert, b. 10 Oct 1876, d. 29 Oct 1891.
