Griffith Bowen, son of Francis Bowen and Ellen Franklyn (See Pedigree); b. about 1600 near Langenith, where his widowed mother resided in 1638, in the district of Gower, Co. Glamorgan, Wales, England; d. 1675 London, England (Suff. P. XII: 14); m. Margaret Fleming about 1627 in Wales, England; dau. of Henry Fleming of Lianrhidian and Sarah dau. of Jenkin ap William Dawkins of Gellehir; b. in England; d. before her husband, as she is not mentioned in the settlement of his estate.
"['The Bowens of Woodstock,' Edward Augustus Bowen:] . . The exact place and date of birth of Griffith Bowen is not known, but either at Langenith, Slade, or Burryhead, Co. Glamorgan in England. He bought land from Phillip Pyg of Penrcce, Co. Glamorgan, he being of Ilston in said Co., Gentleman. In 1637, 1638, and 1639 he sold his lands in England, mostly in Oxwich, Co. Glamorgan and with his wife and the majority of his children came to Boston, New England, where he is found in the records of the First Church of Boston, as " Griffyn Bowen & his wife Margarett taken in for members of ye Congregation The 6t of ye 12th month [1638]". He was freeman 22 May 1639. His estate in Boston was situated on the east side of Washington Street, between Bedford and Essex.
"(R. Comm. Rep. II : 19) Griffith Bowen had land at Muddy River bounded north by land of Thomas Painter.
"(p. 35) Griffith Bowens possessions in Boston. One house and garden bounded the streete on the south and on the west: Miles Reading on the east: and Cole on the north.
"(p. 87) Griffith Bowen, house and garden. Here, within the houseyard stood the 'Liberty Tree', which is said to have been planted in 1646, became famous in the Stamp-Act times, and was cut down in spite by the Tories in 1775."

[57242] "The Bangor Daily News [ Bangor, Maine]," 27 May 2022: "Palmyra - Leonard N. Chadbourne, 84, died May 23, 2022, at Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital Pittsfield. He was born in Bangor Dec. 30, 1937, the son of Nelson and Theresa (Gillis) Chadbourne. He was a graduate of John Bapst High School in Bangor. He attended the University of Maine Orono studying Agriculture. He was a self-employed Dairy Farmer on the family farm in Palmyra all his working life, even after his retirement he was always keeping his eyes open for anything he could do to help. In his early years he was a member of the Newburgh Fire Department. Leonard operated the farm with his bride of 62 years. Leonard was a member of the Farm Bureau of Skowhegan, a member of the Farmer Home agency in Newport, a member of the Somerset Soil and Water Conservation Association. For over 20 years they hosted the Sunrise Nursery School to the farm. They hosted Open Far Days for several years, and the hosted the Maine Envirothon at the Farm and they received the Somerset County Soi and Water Farm of the year in 1991. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield. Leonard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley (Eldridge) Chadbourne of Palmyra; two sons, Robert L. Chadbourne and his wife, Megan, of Palmyra, Dana L. Chadbourne and his friend, Tina, of Palmyra; his daughter, Rebecca R. Richards and her husband, Kenneth, of Dixfield; sister-in-law, Dianne Chadbourne of Newburgh; ten grandchildren: Mathew, Ian, Simon, Logan, Caleb, Melissa, Ben, Hannah, Noah, Elijah; five great grandchildren: Abraham, Liam, Paysin, Coleman, Carson; and several step grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Chadbourne."
