He went to sea at an early age and made many voyages to South American ports and the West Indies. Later he was captain of his own vessel and sailed out of Ellsworth for many years, carrying lumber to New York. After the coasting trade passed he was captain of a lobster smack sailing from Rockland for Thorndike & Hicks. For the past fifteen years he has been with the William Underwood Co. at McKinley. He was obliged to retire in June of 1936 because of falling health. In 1888 he married Mavilla H. Woodbury of Surry who survives him. For some years their home was in Bluehill, moving to Tremont in 1900. Captain Closson leaves seven sons and daughters, 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, also two brothers, Capt. John F. Closson of Tremont and Capt. Charles L. Closson of Manset."

She also was instrumental in the Senior Meal program and many other church activities. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1978; her parents; and two brothers, Mederick Clifford Dyer and Albert David Dyer. She is survived by three sons Robert and wife Sherry Fletcher of Westbrook, James Fletcher and significant other Laura Maynard of Westbrook, Wesley Fletcher of New Hampshire; grandchildren Alexis, Megan, Taylor and Margo,sister Elsie D. Black of Gorham; and several nieces and nephews."

"The Standard [Lykens, PA], 8 November 1912," p. 1: "Elias Schoffstall, who had been ill with dropsy for the past eighteen months died at his home at Gratz on Sunday morning, Oct. 27th. He was a son of the late Samuel and Susannah Schoffstall, born March 6, 1857, was baptized the following June and confirmed as a member of the Reformed church April 13, 1878 by Rev. W. G. Engle. In 1881 he was married to Catharine Buffington who died in May, 1903 and on June 2nd, 1906 he was married again to Emma Jane Duttery who survives him; also three children. His age was 55 yrs. 7 mos 21 das."

[9713] AKA Annie and Annabella. "The Perry County Democrat [Bloomfield, Pennsylvania]," 29 December 1937, p. 3: "Mrs. Annabelle Shumaker Freeman, aged 72 years, 8 months and 4 days, wife of G. W. Freeman, died at her home, near Loysville, about 12.30 p.m., Thursday, of a cerebral hemorrhage, having been ill since December 9, and not in the best of health for several years. She was a daughter of William and Sarah Billman Shumaker and was born and lived her entire life in the vicinity of Loysville. She was a member of the Loysville Lutheran church and Ladies' Aid Society, a very industrious, kind-hearted woman, a devoted wife and mother, who had many friends. Surviving her are her husband and the following children: Naomi, Mrs. William Sheibley, of near Bloomfield; Cleve, of Loysville; Elizabeth, Mrs. Harvey Morrow, of Carlisle; Orie, at home; Herbert and James, of Elliottsburg; Mae, Mrs. Omer Stuber, of Ickesburg; also, twenty-six grandchildren and a brother, S. B. Shumaker, of Harrisburg. Funeral services were held at the residence yesterday, Tuesday, at 10.30 a. her pastor, Rev. J. Grover C. Knipple, officiating, assisted by Rev. G. R. Heim, and burial was In Restland cemetery. The pallbearers were five grandsons, Melvin, Herbert, Chester and Donald Sheibley, George Morrow and a nephew, Lester Shumaker."
