[684] Robert was living in 1141. He was second Earl of Derby of the Ferrers family. Note: This line is from Burke's "Dormant Peerages" (London: 1883, p. 196) and differs from that given in Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956 Edition, 9:183, and that given in "English Baronies: A Study of Their Origins and Descent, 1086-1327," by I. J. Sanders (Oxford Un. Press, 1960, pp.148-9) which gives the descent: Robert II (d. by 1160); William I (son & heir, d. 1190); William II (d. 1247 when his son William III was heir); William II (d. 1254 leaving Robert III a minor); Robert III who attained his majority in 1260 but in 1266 lost his lands due to his role in the Barons' Wars. Burke's states "This nobleman was distinguished by his munificence to the church. His lordship was buried at the abbey of Meervale, co. Warwick, one of the religious houses which he had founded, wrapped in an ox's hide, according to his own desire." His daughter Petronella m. Henry de Stafford per Burke's. See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), pp. 82-83 states Robert d. before 1160 and m. Margaret Peverill.. Cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_de_Ferrers,_2nd_Earl_of_Derby.
[59254] Ethelyn is daughter of Emery Leighton Foss (1895-1965) & Celia Tussa Look (1900-1979; m. 19 November 1919 in Jonesport, Washington Co., ME).

[36654] The person is from an unverified Donath family tree in Ancestry.com in 2014 which offers this note: "Excerp from book written by Ada Sperry given to Adelia Bunting Christmas 1938. Page 49 & 50 - Thomas & Elizabeth Kunce came to Indiana from Ohio with their 5 oldest boys and settled at Bluff Point, Jay Co., taking up a claim, cleared off enough timber to plant a crop and made a pen of logs to protect them from wild animals. During the summer they built a log cabin, dug a well, with a sweep to draw the water, a log stable for the cows & oxen and raised grain enough to eat & seed for next yr. Got wild honey from the bee-trees, later they built a frame house. Thomas dealt in fine horses. The boys attended school in a log school house less than 1/2 mile from home. The other 5 boys were born there & Thomas and his 2 wives died there and are buried near. The boys one by one came to Illinois. Some settled there, others scattered. Levi - Ohio, George to Iowa, Hiram to Missouri, Sam to Iowa, Henry back to Indiana, where descendents are perhaps living today in 1938. Page 81 & 82 - Thomas and Elizabeth Kunce built their Frame house in 1855. Deer Wolves, wild hogs & turkeys roamed the forest when they came to Indiana. 4 of their sons were civil war veterans. Hiram, Henry, William & George. Sam tried to enlist but William told him not to leave mother, enough of her boys were serving their country and she needed him. They had to go 40 miles to Richmond to mill. They wove their own cloth from flax they raised & from wool from their sheep and then made all their own clothes. William enlisted in the Army 1st at Atlanta Illinois for 3 months, then at Indiana for 3 years, was recruiting officer at Mound City Illinois. Grandfather Kunce's (Thomas K.) mothers maiden name was Hines, her father was a Black Hawk War Soldier. John and Sam, the 2 youngest sons are with us today at Kunce reunion at Hopedale 1924 -- Uncle Sam giving me this information. - Ada K. Sperry"
