He was the son of Robert de Scales IV (1249-1305) and Isabel (Burnell) de Scales (1252-1333). Robert V married Egeline (Evelina) de Courtenay (1282-1335) in Okehampton, Devon, England in 1309. Egeline was the daughter of Hugh de Courtenay Baron of Okehampton (1248-1291) and Eleanor le de (Spencer) de Scales (1262-1328). Robert V and Egeline de Scales were the parents of the following known children: Robert VI, Eleanor Isabelle and Parnel de Scales. Robert de Scales was made Knight of the Bath by Prince Edward whom he accompanied in the Scottish wars and was given an exemption for life from sitting on assizes, juries, etc. against his will. He was summoned to Parliament from 1306 until his death in 1324. He was summoned as a Peer to the Coronation of Edward II on 25 February 1308. Robert's main residence was at Rivenhall in Essex but he also held the manors of Lyneford, Hokewold cum Wiltone, Reynham, South Lenn, Middleton, Berton Bynedick, Hoo and Ilsington in Norfolk. Sir Knight Robert V de Scales 2nd Baron of Worlington died on 20 Mar 1325 in Worlington, Mildenhall, Suffolk, England. His burial is unknown at this time."
