Nov 1719). "History of Portland," by William Willis (1833), includes an account of him and family escaping from the Indians in a stolen birch bark canoe which had been mended by his wife, Ann Mitten. "King Philip's War," Eric C. Schultz and Michael J. Tougias (Woodstock, VT: The Countryman Press, 1999), p. 304 offers: "On August 11,1676 . . . the home of Anthony Brackett on the west side of the Back Cove was assaulted, with Brackett, his wife, and five children carried into captivity. . . . Brackett's home was located on Cleve's Nek, now the downtown area of Portland." Family Tree Maker's "Early New England Settlers" (CD #504) reports "He was lieutenant and captain in the war, and was finally killed at his house 21 Sep. 1689. His son Anthony was also lieutenant and captain in Indian hostilities." She is survived by her children, Timothy D. and wife Debbie, Kathy A. and husband Ken, Fawn P. and husband John, Colin K. and wife Anna, Carl E. and Gavin, Holly A.; her grandchildren Adele, Buzz, Shandi, Brittany, Nicholas, Laura, Katherine, Benjamin, Erica and Abigail, who were her pride and joy; nine great-grandchildren, whom she cherished; her many cousins, nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, and brother-in-law. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her brother Henry T. Perkins.

He was a 52-year member of the Rising Star Lodge No. 177 of Penobscot where he served as master in 1948. He was a member of the Penobscot Chapter No. 107 OES. He is survived by two sons, Dana Wardwell, Sr. of Searsport and John Wardwell of South China; two daughters, Ruth Harris of Madison, Conn. and Lois Donaghy of Frankfort; nine grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren. He was for many years a member of Cherryfleld Grange."
