[55256] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 27 November 2023: "Jonesport - Leo Hayden Chandler Sr., aged 97, of Jonesport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. Leo was surrounded by his family at his home. Leo, one of 11 children, was born June 9, 1926, to Orin and Pheobe (Beal) Chandler of Jonesport. Leo was also a great-grandson of Tall Barney Beal. One of Leo's fondest memories was of the year he and his new bride, Vivian, spent on the Machias River. He always referred to it as a year long honeymoon. Leo went scalloping and herring seining with his older brother, George. He was also a lifelong lobster fisherman. He took pride in being part of the group that built the original United Pentecostal Church in Jonesport and was a devoted member until his death. Leo, along with Vivian, enjoyed many years of camping at Pretty Pond, Hadley's Lake and Molasses Pond. Leo is survived by his wife, Vivian of 74 years; daughter, Karen and husband, Tony, of Beals; daughter, Kathy and partner, Rod, of Beals; son, Leo Jr. and partner, Laurie, of Beals; daughter, Sandra and husband, Donny, of Jonesport; son, Dwight and wife, Beth, of Jonesport; daughter, Annette and husband, Tim, of Jonesport; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Wood and Margaret 'Pargy' Ross; his grandchildren, Sandy, LeaAnn, Michael, Samuel, Benjamin, Nicole, Leo 3rd, Rebecca, Bobby, Michelle, Jimmy, Wendall, Angel, Michael, Misty, DJ, Kenneth, Krista, Ashley, Jesse, Erin, and all their spouses; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends. Leo had four very special previous sons-in-law, Stephen Oyer, Leland 'Bucky' Faulkingham Sr., Stephen Pelletier and William 'Billy' Hinkley. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Orin and Pheobe (Beal) Chandler; in-laws, Adelaide and Winslow Davis; brothers-in-law, Kenneth 'Bucket,' Adian, and Keith; sisters-in-law, Glenna, Ethel, Annie, Josephine, and Vera; two infant sons; siblings, Roger, George, Clifford, Harold, Oscar, Ora, Sarah, Edith, Verlene, and Elva; three sons-in-law, Ben Bean, Roy Lenfestey and Allen Devericks; and daughter-in-law, Irma Pelletier. Leo was enjoyed by all for his sense of humor, and looked to and respected for his unwavering faith, by all who knew him. The thing that meant most to him was his family, he especially enjoyed visits from two of his great-grandsons, Dennis and Dalon, whom he could tolerate for about 5 minutes."
