[29688] "The Giddings Family," Minot S. Giddings (Hartford: Case, Lockwood & Brainard Co., 1882), p. 26: "Capt. Andrew Robinson, s. of Abraham, g. s. of Rev. John, the faithful pastor of the Pilgrims of Plymouth Rock, was one of the most remarkable men that Gloucester ever produced - of great strength and personal courage. He was a ship-master and builder of vessels - built the first schooner-rigged vessel, and gave that name to that class of vessels. He constructed and rigged a vessel in the same manner as schooners are now rigged at this day. On her going off the stocks and passing into the water, a by-stander cried out, 'Oh! how she scoons !' Robinson instantly replied, 'A schooner let her be.' Since that time vessels thus masted and rigged have gone by the name 'schooners.' Before this, vessels of this description were not known in Europe or America. This was in 1713. He was Rep. in General Court 1738, 1739; d. 1742, leaving an estate of .£2,372. He m.
