They had children: Mary Jane 1835, Hatevil James Jr. 1837, Martha Ann 1839, Eunice Mary 1842 , John F. 1844, Mark L. 1847, Jemima Bell 1850, and Thomas O. 1853. In 1870 he was a farmer age 65 of Pembroke, Mary was 57 and his sons Mark 22 and Thomas 17 were working on the farm. Also in the household were grandchildren Martha J and Laura E. Greenlaw, children of James Greenlaw and Mary Jane Leighton, and Almeda Dingle, 4 daughter of William Dingle and Eunice Leighton. By 1880 Mary was deceased and Thomas was age 76 and residing with him was his son Thomas age 27, a sailor, and Mark age 35 also a sailor, daughter Martha Leighton age 41 and her husband Josiah Crowell age 54, a sailor, and grandchildren Laura Greenlaw, Almeda Dingle, Philinda Leighton age 4 and Clarence L. Carter age 6 child of JKemima Bell Leighton and husband Emulus Carter. He was buried Clarkside with his wife Mary who died in 1877."
