[560] "The American Genealogist," XVI:103: "It is probably safe to start this pedigree with John Norton, called of Sharpenhoe, who was born, we estimate, about 1440. The name of his wife is not given; but he was evidently of yeoman stock, and a tenant of the Manor of Sharpenhoe...." See http://www.nortonfamily.net. [44847] His birth year or that of his sister Amanda is wrong. Find A Grave memorial 7253967 offers: "US Congressman. Born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, he served in Company A, 8th Missouri Light Artillery, US Army, during the Mexican War. After the war, he relocated to San Francisco, California in 1849 and engaged in mercantile pursuits. In 1875, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress, serving until 1877. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he continued his mercantile pursuits until his death at age 73 in San Francisco, California. He was originally buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery, San Francisco, California, and moved to Greenlawn Memorial Park in 1903."
