[35890] "The Daily Item [Sunbury, Pennsylvania}, 8 May 1939," P. 2: "Run down by an automobile while returning home shortly after midnight Sunday morning, David K. Kepner, 69, of near Port Royal, Juniata county was instantly killed. John Frymoyer of near Mexico, Juniata county, the driver of the death car, said that he did not see Kepner until he felt an impact against the side of his machine The accident occurred on a curve. Kepner was a retired farmer, and a director of the First National Bank of Port Royal. He was one of the best known citizens of that community. Dr. Penrose Shelley, of Port Royal, was summoned to the scene of the accident by a passer-by and pronounced the man dead. Kepner had suffered fractures of the left leg, left shoulder and skull and his chest was crushed. An inquest is being arranged by Coroner Karl H. Guss, of Juniata county, to be held Tuesday night at the courthouse in Miffiintown. Frymoyer has been released in $500 bail to appear at that time. State Motor Police are assisting in the investigation being directed by the coroner. Kepner was vice president of the Juniata County Agricultural Society which holds the Port Royal Fair annually. He was the president of the society last year and for several years served in other offices in that organization. He was one of the oldest members of Turbett Grange and belonged to the P. O. S. of A. of Port Royal. Surviving are eight children, Mrs. T. L. McMullen, Harrisburg, Mrs. Everett Meloy, Port Royal, Mrs J. Floyd Ritzman, of near Port Royal, Mrs. Ellis Humholtz, New Bloomfield, French W., Glenn D. and Carl Kepner, Port Royal and Lynn Kepner, of Galveston, Texas. Funeral services will be held from the late home Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock with burial at that place."
