[13794] The LDS Church's unverified IGI file reports that Charles is son of Jeremiah Mattern and Catherine Reed who m. ca. 1876 and were of Hepler, Schuylkill Co., PA. "Elizabethville Echo, 27 August 1959," p. 1: "Charles F. Mattern of Lykens R. D., a retired farmer, died on Friday at the age of 75 years. Mr. Mattern was a son of the late Jeremiah and Catherine (Biel) Mattern and was a native of the Klingerstown community. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lykens. His wife, the former Sadie Snyder, preceded him in death. He is survived by five sons: Ralph Mattern, of Lykens; Dr. Paul Mattern, Hatboro; Woodrow Mattern, Lykens R. D.; Rev. Ivan Mattern of Wichita, Kansas; and Lawrence Mattern of West Lawn, Pa.; and twelve grandchildren. AIso surviving are a brother, William, of Shamokin; and five sisters: Mrs. Katie Gessner, of Leck Kill; Mrs. Lizzie Groshinski and Mrs. Florence Grow, both of Shamokin; Mrs. Calvin Harris, Dornsife, and Mrs. Emma Mattern of Klingerstown R. D. Services were held from the Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown R. D. . . . interment was made in the Howerter Cemetery at Leck Kill."

[43516] Find A Grave memorial 174773688 offers: "Deane's *History of Scituate, Massachusetts* c.1831 mentions Prouty's Dam 'on the road North of Hoop-Pole Hill." (1686). The area including Prouty's Dam was a piece of land granted to (amoung others) Richard Prouty. His land was located on Hoop-Pole Hill; this land was granted to him for his service in King Philip's War. Deane also stated ' [Richard Prouty] his house was near the causeway over the swamp, called Prouty's Dam. The present-day area would probably be the hill on Hollett Street near the Foyer of Charity."
