[49775] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 28 December 2021": "Isleboro - Robert 'Bob' Leach Jr., 82, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2021, with his daughter, Tara, nearby. He was born on Islesboro, in their family home on Colony Rd., December 25, 1938, to Robert Leach Sr. and Edna (Sylvester) Leach. Robert's parents moved to Connecticut a few years after his birth and so Robert, or 'Bobby' as he was also known, grew up and attended school in Ellington, CT. As a young man, he raced cars for many years starting on dirt tracks and traveled from Connecticut to New York almost every weekend. He was proud of his accomplishments and when talking about racing, he would be sure to say that he won the Race Of Kings in 1976 at Lebanon Valley Speedway. Bob had 3 children from his first marriage, who were raised in Connecticut. He took a small hiatus from racing and settled down, back on Islesboro, where he had 3 more children with his current wife, Connie Lyn Leach. Bob started his own business at their home on Colony Road where he built fireplace screens, did auto body repair and fixed just about anything with an engine in it. This is where he started Leach's Garage. Leach's Garage grew and expanded to include oil delivery so he purchased the now current Main Rd. garage from Joseph Pisciotta. Racing was in his blood so in the late 80's, he got back on the race track, this time traveling throughout New England. Bob's laugh was infectious and people loved to hear his stories, which were many and colorful. He wasn't afraid to share his political opinion, whether asked about it or not. After closing Leach's Garage and Oil, he began driving many of Babe's dump trucks getting material brought over. He was a longtime fixture in the back of the Island Market, gabbing with'the guys' for many, many years. In 2016, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and, after all the treatments, the famously stubborn Bob Leach successfully beat it. Even after beating cancer, he continued to battle other, different health issues. Robert is survived by his wife, Connie, of Islesboro; son, Robert Leach III and his 2 children of Broad Brook, Connecticut; son, Joshua Leach and wife, Janice Leach, and their 4 children of Islesboro; daughter, Tara Leach and her 2 children of Islesboro; son, Andew Leach and wife, Essie Leach, of Scarborough, Maine; grandson, Gregory St. John and wife, Samantha, of Uncasville, Connecticut; granddaughter, Alexandra Craig of Portland, Maine; sister, Linda Pisciotta of Corinna, Maine; sister, Carol Leach and George Reynolds of Cape Coral, Florida; sister, Judi Brooks and husband, Paul Brooks, of Corinna, Maine; brother, Daniel Leach and wife, Tammy, of Ellington, Connecticut; and brother, Ronald Leach and wife, Patricia, of Ellington, Connecticut. Robert was predeceased by his father and mother, Robert Leach Sr. and Edna (Sylvester) Leach; daughter, Diana Stager; grandson, Christopher DuPerry; daughter, Brenda Craig; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Leach; and brother-in-law, John Pisciotta."
[46653] Cordelia is daughter of George Newcomb (1855-1937) and Malissa Clift (1860-1943).

[61151] The unverified file KDSH-WV7 in familysearch.org offers: "When Honorable David Gilman (a.k.a. Jonathan) Willey was born on 24 June 1796, in Bingham, Somerset, Maine, United States, his father, Turner Willey, was 24 and his mother, Esther Gilman Drew, was 19. He married Fanny Spofford on 15 April 1817, in Bingham, Somerset, Maine, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 7 daughters. He died on 20 September 1868, in Bingham, Somerset, Maine, United States, at the age of 72, and was buried in Bingham, Somerset, Maine, United States." A note attached to this file reports: "He was not David Jonathan Willey Gilman at least he never used it that way. He was born Jonathan Willy, but after a land dispute with his dad, he changed his name as well as his wife and three children. He must have been real mad, as he changed his first and last name. Gilman was his mother's middle name. A better way to list him would be David Gilman a.k.a. Jonathan Willey. Back then, in order to change your name, you had to petition the state legislature, and they had to pass a law letting you change it. I have a copy of the letter he wrote to the legislature (he had great penmanship). I got it from the Maine state archives along with some of the court documents related to his land dispute with his father. David Gilman and his son, Charles, were both Justices of the Peace. They performed the marriages of hundreds of people for over a period of fifty years, including daughter, Lucy (my grandmother), who became a Civil War widow and lived into the 1930s." From Changes in Name by Special Acts of the Legislature of Maine, 1820-1895 (1901), p. 65: "Willey, Jonathan, of Bingham, ch. to Daniel Gilman, and Fanny, Esther, Sally Spofford and Abel Ware, ch. surname to Gilman, 1828." Another note adds: "David was born under name Jonathan Willey. He was a 'tempery man' and he and his father had a quarrell and he was disownded. His mother-in-law, Hannah Emerson Spofford Hildton read in the paper where Jonathon Willey's name as changed to David Gilman. She couldn't believe it was her son in law but she read on that Fanny, Esther, and Sally all changed their last names to Gilman. When he was 19 he took possession of an adjoining section and cut 4 acres of trees. The following year he raised 127 bushels of wheat all of which was harvested with a sickle. The then built a frame house and barn and planted 2 orchards. In 1819 he married Fanny who lived on a near by farm. They went on horseback 8 miles on their wedding day to get married in Bingham. David went to school with his children to become educated. When the govenor heard this he sent him a commission as Justice of the Peach and later Trial justice and still lated as Captain of the State Militia. He held these duties for 40 years."
