[1093] Andrew was a soldier in the War for Independence and resided in Gorham, Maine. He m. (2) Mrs. Hannah Fowler (nee Whitney), 21 April 1804. {See Cobb Genealogy, pp.148-9; V.R. of Gorham, Maine; See "History of Gorham, Maine," Hugh D. McLellan (Katharine B. Lewis, editor; Portland: Smith & Sale, 1903), pp. 131, 438 etc.; Mass. Sailors & Soldiers, III:664.} Andrew became dissatisfied with the ministry of the Rev. Mr. Thatcher at the time of the "New Light" excitement and he withdrew to the Free Will Baptists. While he and others were attending a Baptist convention and the women were preparing dinner for them the house burned down. Andrew then built another with special reference to the accomodation of the brothers and sisters who held their meetings in private residences. {- "History of Gorham" by McClellan, p. 438; cf. "History of the Free Will Baptists," F. D. Stuart, I:89} For Cobb families, also see "Early Families of Limington, Maine," Robert Taylor. His military service was as Sgt. in Capt. Nathaniel Wood's Co., Eben Sproul's Regt - enlisted 6 May 1778, discharged 9 May 1778, enlisted 6 Sept 1778, discharged 12 Sept 1778, serving nine days on two alarms at Dartmouth, NH. He was also a Second Lt. in Capt. Jonah Washburn's Co., Col. Eben White's Regt. and marched to Rhode Island on alarm of 1 Aug 1780 - discharged 9 Aug 1780, having served 9 days. Roll sworn to at Middleborough. Capt. Henry Pierce's Co., Col. Theophilous Cotton's Regt. - enlisted 8 March 1781, discharged 31 March 1781, served 26 days at Rhode Island by order of his Excellency John Hancock of 40 days expedition. Also Private, 3rd Cumberland Regt., Capt. Sam Whitmore. [Albert E. Myers has proven his lineage from Andrew as member 73197 of the Sons of the Anerican Revolution. For insight into what service in the War for Independence was like for Andrew, see "A People's History of the American Revolution," Ray Raphael (New York: The New Press, 2001 - ISBN 0-06-000440-1), Chapters 1 & 2.]
