[51459] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 24 September 2015": "Brooksville - Irl Franklin (Frank) Snow, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015. Frank was born on May 11, 1922, and was a lifelong Brooksville resident. Frank was the first child of Sydney and Bernice Snow of North Brooksville and graduated from Brooksville High School in the late 1930s. He married Virginia Babson in 1940, and they moved into their home on Bridge Road in 1946. Frank loved life, cherished his family, and was an active civic and business citizen of Brooksville and Hancock County. Frank started in the plumbing business in the 1940s and opened his own shop in 1958. Up until recent weeks he could still be seen chatting with 'the boys' every morning over coffee. Early in his adult life Frank was an avid bowler, baseball player and hunter. His civic activities were many, including trustee of George Stevens Academy, one of the founding members of Brooksvilles Volunteer Fire Department, and an active supporter of numerous charities. He was a director for Union Trust Bank (now Camden National Bank), a Shriner and 67-year Masonic member of Ira Berry Lodge No. 128. In the last few years, Frank was an active participant at 'Meals-for-Me' every Thursday in Brooksville. In 2012, his civic dedication and contributions were recognized by 'Channel 2 Those Who Care' with the John W. Coombs Award. Frank is survived by his son Donald of New Jersey; son-in-law Murray Bates of Brooksville; and sister-in-law Katherine Clifford of Cape Rosier; his five grandchildren, Jackie Gott of Penobscot; Dennis Bates and wife, Helen, of England; Thomas Snow of Switzerland; Amanda Snow of New Jersey; Michael Snow and wife, Claire, of New Jersey; seven great-grandchildren, Luke Carter and Megan of Sedgwick; Josh Gott and Tessa of Blue Hill; Megan and Rhianna Bates of England and Mia; Sarah and Helena Snow of Massachusetts; one great-great-grandchild, Mackenzie Carter of Sedgwick; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Frank was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Virginia; daughter Dr. Maryann Snow Bates; and sisters Nettie Leach and Evangeline Peasley." For his maritime history see "Maritime History of Brooksville," Capt. LeCain W. Smith (Brooksville Historical Society, 2005), p. 77.
