He was prominent in the civil, military and religious affairs of the Colony; a major in the infantry, and a lawyer. He was chosen Deacon of the Church in 1732, and served in that capacity until his death 32 years later. Jedediah married Hester Kirtland on June 5, 1723. She was born March 19, 1704, a daughter of John Kirtland, Jr., and Temperence Buckingham. Jedediah died at West-brook on February 10, 1764. Hester later married Robert Chapman, of East Haddam, a first cousin to Jedediah. Jedediah Chapman and Hester Kirtland had eight children, the second of whom was Jedediah Chapman, Jr."

[56697] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 6 August 2024: "Searsport -- Sheldon A. Leighton passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on July 4 at Bayview Manor in Searsport. A lifelong resident of Blue Hill, he was born on June 4, 1928, to Hugh A. and Anna (Johnson) Leighton. Following the death of his father in 1935, he was raised by his grandparents Walter M. and Clara H. Leighton on the family farm in North Blue Hill. After graduating from George Stevens Academy in 1947, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the destroyer U.S.S. Eugene A. Greene during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He attended Southern Maine Technical College and became a Master Electrician and a union member of IBEW Local 1253 for over 60 years."

Mrs. Sellman, a native of Cleveland, had lived in Kent most of her life. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She leaves her son P. G. Sellman Jr., Kent; daughter Mrs. Treva Heichel, Sturgis, Mich. ; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Graveside services will be at 2 p. m. today at Standing Rock cemetery."
