From The New York Times, Friday 19th December 1941:
A marriage uniting two families of prominence in society here and in Newport, R. I., took place in the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest yesterday afternoon when Miss Virginia Middleton French, daughter of Mrs. James Lenox Banks Jr. of 15 East Ninety-third Street and Tudor Hill, Newport, and of Francis O. French, also of Newport, became the bride of William F. Dick, son of William K. Dick of Allen Winden Farm, Islip, L. I., and the late Mrs. Madeleine Force Dick. The Rev. Dr. Henry Darlington, rector of the church, performed the ceremony, assisted by the Rev. Charles B. Hedrick.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gown of white satin, fashioned on simple lines with long sleeves, a square neckline edged with shirred tulle, and a full skirt. Her tulle veil was attached to a cluster of white orchids and she carried white orchids and bouvardia.
Mrs. John Jacob Astor, the former Miss Ellen Tuck French, was her sister's matron of honor and Miss Jane Pope was maid of honor. The other attendants were Mrs. William G. McKnight, Mrs. Robert Grant 3d, Mrs. John T. Hamilton 2d, Mrs. Frank X. Shields, Mrs. Joseph F. Dempsey Jr., Mrs. DeWitt L. Alexandre, Mrs. Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Mrs. Michael Strutt, Mrs. Francis Taylor and Miss Lucy Saunders. All were attired in pale blue taffeta gowns made with short sleeves, full skirts and fitted bodices, trimmed with bands of gold and blue braid. They wore also cloth of gold caps, with blue net veils, and carried bouquets of red anemones.
The bridegroom had his brother, John Henry Dick, for his best man. The ushers were Mr. Astor, their half-brother; J. H. Dick Macy and W. Kingsland Macy Jr., cousins of the bridegroom; H. Elliott Rogers, C. Herbert Fisher, Mr. Dempsey, Francis B. Thorne Jr. and Albert Crutcher.
After the ceremony, a small reception for members of the bridal party and immediate relatives was given by Mr. and Mrs. Astor in their apartment at 998 Fifth Avenue.
Mr. Dick and his bride, after a short wedding trip, will make their home in Islip.
Mrs. Dick is a granddaughter of the late Amos Tuck French and the late Mrs. Pauline Le Roy French, and of Mrs. Edward Livingston Burrill and the late Mr. Burrill. She is a stepsister of Mrs. DeWitt L. Alexandre and the Misses Vieva and Maud Banks. The bride was introduced to society a few years ago.
Mr. Dick was graduated from the Brooks School, attended Trinity College and is now studying at the Roosevelt Field Aviation School. He is a grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Dick and the late Mr. and Mrs. William H. Force. The bridegroom is a member of the Racquet and Tennis Club and the South Side Club.
